Sorry to do this, but the previous thread was locked, and it ended this way:

Who knows? There were plenty of opportunities to get questions in before and during the Q&A, but we could only take so many questions in the space of an hour.

I'm not sure which thread Webgear was reading, but what a bizarre observation. So I just want to ensure that we recall the questions and answers regarding foreign policy. And I believe they're worth discussing on their own.

First there was my question: "Hi Niki! What do you think of Canada (viz. Chrystia Freeland, granddaughter of a Nazi collaborator, supporter of the Banderist regime in Kiev, promoter of sanctions against Russia) licking Trump's boots by imposing sanctions against Venezuela? "

And her reply: "I have denounced Freeland's pandering to Trump for some time. I have also opposed her hawkish stand and the increased military budget that she and Trudeau supported. I do not support the approach that the Trudeau government is taking on Venezuela, including the sanctions."

Then this from cco: "No politician wants to campaign against jobs, but many of these jobs (like coal and asbestos mining) are awful, dangerous to the people who work at them, and dangerous to the environment as a whole -- or, in the case of the Ontario workers who make arms for sale to Saudi Arabia, dangerous to human rights overseas."

Niki Ashton's reply: "In terms of the work related to the deal with Saudi Arabia - I have said clearly that we oppose this deal and we should instead be looking at supporting the manufacturing sector and creating much needed manufacturing jobs in a range of areas that don't hinge on abusing peoples' fundamental human rights."

From epaulo3: "..why did you not outrightly reject NATO in your canadian dimension questionnaire?"

Reply: "Our campaign has made it clear that the NDP and Canada must be a voice for peace in the world. I have been outspoken on the need for justice and peace in Palestine and the Middle East. I have called on the need for leadership when it comes to supporting those who are being oppressed such as the Rohingya Muslims, Tamils and Kurds. I have opposed Trudeau's increased military budget and talked about the need to redirect this money towards saving lives rather than putting more lives at stake.

If we're going to talk about Canada being a voice for peace in the world this means reviewing our role in NATO given NATO's mandate.  I believe NATO is an anachronistic organization that is acting in such a way to increase instability as in the case of Eastern Europe, and to make the world a more dangerous place."

So Webgear is disappointed that "none of the serious questions on Canada’s foreign policy" were even asked - never mind answered. I'm compelled to wonder: What would those serious questions be - and why didn't he take advantage of the opportunity to pose them?

ETA: There was another question, about the duty imposed on Bombardier - but she obviously didn't have time to answer.

Hello Unionist,

I was referring to the questions in this link:

http://rabble.ca/babble/canadian-politics/ndp-leadership-qa-questions-ni...

I know NDPP and other asked a few questions but I can't find the links for them now. Anyways, it doesn't matter to me in the long run.

Maybe I thought there were more questions than I thought there actually was. I haven't been following the forums much lately.

Have a great day.

Thanks, Webgear. I haven't been present much here for a long time, and I honestly thought you'd been thinking of some other thread. No offence intended - but I just didn't want that other thread closed with the impression left that Ashton hadn't been asked, or had somehow evaded, talking about foreign policy. Especially since I kind of liked her answers lol...

You have a great day also!

Ken Burch

Good to see you back, U.  Hope everything is ok with you.

Thanks Ken - all is good! Aside from the anti-human anti-nature social, economic, political order that is lol. Just been unusually busier IRL than expected. But that's good too.
