Stanislav Petrov, 'The Man Who Saved The World,' Dies At 77
Stanislav Petrov, a former Soviet military officer, poses at his home in 2015 near Moscow. In 1983, he was on duty when the Soviet Union's early warning satellite indicated the U.S. had fired nuclear weapons at his country. He suspected, correctly, it was a false alarm and did not immediately send the report up the chain of command. Petrov died at age 77.

But Petrov's role was crucial in providing information to make that decision.[12] According to Bruce Blair, a Cold War nuclear strategies expert and nuclear disarmament advocate, formerly with the Center for Defense Information, "The top leadership, given only a couple of minutes to decide, told that an attack had been launched, would make a decision to retaliate."[13]
Petrov later said "I had obviously never imagined that I would ever face that situation. It was the first and, as far as I know, also the last time that such a thing had happened, except for simulated practice scenarios."[12]

One could also visit all the other "Newspapers of Record" (eg see the NYT) for numerous renditions of the same false news--not to mention the hundreds of lesser "authorative" media renditions of the same disinformation, often even more hysterical, in both senses.

In accordance with the Vienna document (2011 OSCE agreement aimed at strengthening trust in security area – Ed) seven countries were invited on voluntary basis from the Belarus side to observe the Belarus part of the exercise. There were two of us from each country. We were in Belarus from September 16-21 observing the exercises.

DW: Before the exercise, Western politicians voiced concern. One of the critical points was the number of soldiers. Some estimated that the actual number was almost 100,000. What were your impressions?Thomas Möller: You can always discuss the numbers of soldiers. The Vienna document is mainly about land forces. What the Belarus verification agency reported – 12,700 Russian and Belarus soldiers – is a correct number I think. In Sweden we are conducting a similar exercise at the moment. The media talks of about 19- 20,000 participants. We reported about 12,400. But that's what you have to report according to the Vienna document, because you don't count anything to do with the navy or air force. When you come to Russia and Belarus you don't talk about strategic rocket forces, railroad and interior troops. From an observer's point of view I would say it is impossible to tell if it was 12,700 or 13,061. I believe the Belarus agency....

Russian military exercises are a provocation to all of Europe and by extension to the US and must be taken very seriously as a threat. On the other hand the North Korean leadership is certifiably insane for being frightened of the US military exercises that mimic an invasion by air, sea and land.
US media is so biased that it has reached the point of absurdity. Only a people who have been propagandized into knee jerk nationalism could believe such incoherent ideas.
