From the Politico article posted by North Report:

Applebaum says. “I don’t think Americans realize the degree to which they are the main subject of Russian television news ... Every night, the United States is shown to be an enemy of Russia over and over and over again...

...“So, it puts us in an odd position,” she concludes, “where it’s almost as if the Cold War is back—except only one side is fighting it.”

If Annie Applebaum doesn't think the USA is not still fighting the cold war, she must live on some other planet. It's not just about politics, it's about a large part of the world's resources that are being withheld from USA capital.

Whether Putin is able to stabalize Russia is an open question, but when one looks at the condition of Russia when he took over, one can only assume that he's brilliant. In fact, I don't think it's going to far to say that history will see him as one of the most talented leaders of his time.

There was a Russian book published in 2000 about him, containing biographical information, interviews with associates and friends, and interviews with Putin himself. Required reading for anyone who wants to understand Vladimir Putin.

I totally agree with you.

History will remember Putin for many things but I have his handling of the middle east masterful.

1.  Without Russia the US would dominate middle east through its proxy the Saudis.  While the Russians will never dominate the middle east like the US.  The balance of power is different the Saudis are vassal state of the US, while Iran will never accept vassalage to the Russians.  But Russia will work together Iran to displace the US infleunce in the Middle East.  I dare say that the Shia Crescent is almost achived or the intial stages are almost their.  The Land Bridge were shia will maximum control from Lebenan to Syria to Iran and quickly adding Iraq.  Russia dream of a warm weather port will become reality through diplomacy.

2.  The elimination of the US power projection through the Saudias.  Right now Iran and Saudia Arabia are fighting a shadow war for dominate in the Middle East.  Saudias made a huge mistake attacking Yemen.  Yemen is the bleeding wound in the body of Suadia Arabia.  It will not bring down Saudias in year or 2 but 5-7years the Saudia will be in lot pain with the economy.  They writing some many cheques to bribe other Sunni countries that it is straining the primtive oil economy even with out Yemen.  Saudias started to borrow internaly through domestic bonds.  And I think floating international bonds as well, both conditions have become necessary to do so balance the interal budget.

I guess it shows that Russia has become a real democracy, just like Canada.

Canadian police have arrested over 600 people in Toronto in a police crackdown on protests at the G20 summit. Riot police used batons, plastic bullets and tear gas for the first time in the city’s history. More than 19,000 security personnel were deployed in Toronto, and a nearly four-mile-long security wall was erected around the G20 summit site at the Toronto Convention Center. The security price tag for the summit is estimated at around $1 billion. Franklin Lopez of the Vancouver Media Co-op filed this report from the streets of Toronto. [includes rush transcript]

US Scrapping of INF Treaty Heightens Threat of Nuclear War

https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2019/08/03/inft-a03.html

"Washington formally scrapped the intermediate-range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty Friday, bringing the world a major step closer to nuclear war. CNN reported that the Pentagon will test within weeks a new cruise missile designed for ranges previously banned by the INF accord. The abrogation of the agreement is bound up with Washington's turn toward 'great power conflict' with Russia and China, in which US imperialism is seeking to leverage its military power as a means of containing Russia and countering the economic rise of China and its challenge to US global hegemony. The ripping up of the INF treaty is widely expected to be followed by the ending of the even more significant New START agreement.

The immense dangers posed by the Trump administration's abrogation of the INF Treaty and the significant step closer to nuclear war provoked no response from Trump's ostensible political rival, the Democratic Party. Having voted overwhelmingly  in both the House and Senate for a record $738 billion US military budget, the Democrats are fully committed to the march toward a nuclear conflagration..."

“The Russian government has stepped up efforts to inflame racial tensions in the United States as part of its bid to influence November’s presidential election, including trying to incite violence by white supremacist groups and to stoke anger among African-Americans,” thew New York Times reports.

“Russia’s lead intelligence agency, the S.V.R., has apparently gone beyond 2016 methods of interference, when operatives tried to stoke racial animosity by creating fake Black Lives Matter groups and spreading disinformation to depress black voter turnout. Now, Russia is also trying to influence white supremacist groups, the officials said; they gave few details, but one official said federal investigators are examining how at least one neo-Nazi organization with ties to Russia is funded.”

So I am not one of those here who thinks it is impossible for Russia to want to see this happen. I am not one arguing that the Russians did not interfere in 2016.

I ask you why would they feel the need or want the risk to do it now? The US is doing it effectively to themselves. Could the Russians compete with the resources being spent in the US already to do this? Would they be able to make a dent?

Premature Ejaculation is a Saudi Problem Not a Russian One

http://johnhelmer.net/premature-ejaculation-is-a-saudi-problem-not-a-rus...

"Russia is not the initiator of the war on the oil front which is now underway. What is true is that the war started with the US Government; its spetsnaz, the shale oil producers; and their offensive to capture maket-share from the traditional producers, the members of OPEC. Pressing this attack when oil demand started falling, as the coronavirus damaged the global economy, obliged the defenders to agree between themselves on tactics.

The Russians argued for holding the current position, and let the virus, the demand dynamic and the elapse of time damage the Americans. The Saudis argued for a break-out, a counter-offensive. Between lower risk defence in place, and a higher-risk sally, it's impossible to do both at the same time. Three things happened next..."

Looks like we may have Putin to kick around for another 16 years.

His intentions became clear only hours before a vote in parliament, when legislator Valentina Tereshkova, a Soviet-era cosmonaut who was the first woman in space in 1963, proposed letting him run two more times. The amendments, which also emphasize the primacy of Russian law over international norms, outlaw same-sex marriages and mention “a belief in God” as a core value, were quickly passed by the Kremlin-controlled legislature.
