As much as I admire Norman Finkelstein, I'm not particularly inclined to get involved in a cause that, from the sounds of it, is basically just an extension of a particularly nasty divorce case...
These matrimonial cannibals want to send me away for two years. Am I worried? Yes. Am I scared? Yes. Will that deter me? Never! Dr Rudolph Baldeo will not go homeless and penniless. Michael Chetkof and Allyson Burger must be disbarred!
Suffice to say, I have no idea who any of these people are, and as far as I can tell, this is a private dispute, not something with any social or political implications. It's not even clear to me what Finkelstein is accused of, and even if I knew, I doubt I would have the comprehension neccessary to form a solid opinion about it.

I was going to address the link that referenced "men's rights", but thankfully that one was removed. There is a lot to admire Norman Finklestein about, but I'd say we need a hell of a lot more information on this.

I'm not surprised from the Saker, who is VERY far from a progressive.
I'd need a lot more background information to venture an opinion on such matters.

No, of course being a feminist doesn't mean I think the woman is always in the right, and there are a hell of a lot of things wrong with the divorce industry ($$$$$). But Finkelstein's very use of the term "men's rights matter" is a red flag.
Moreover, I knew someone who had a long career as a humanitarian and activist who pushed his then wife down the stairs and broke her arm. He grew up a lot in subsequent decades and I don't want him to be remembered only for that violent episode, but people don't always behave according to their principles.

And just for the record, it's not Finkelstein himself who is being accused of domestic violence; he was just a witness in the case(which somehow led to his being arrested). So, I would assume most of us are at least one degree reomoved from the people at the centre of this case, in terms of knowing who they are.

I still don't understand why Finkelstein was arrested; could someone provide more information? I was reacting only to his "men's rights matter" schtick.
If he wasn't accused of domestic violence or a similar offence, then I fail to see why on earth he would be imprisoned.

It looks as if he's being charged with helping his friend the doctor hide some personal assets, to prevent those assets going to the doctor's estranged wife in the divorce.

Thanks for doing the legwork on that.
Kinda confirms my earlier point that no one reading this on babble is likely to have any idea about what went on there. From what I know of Finkelstein(including from a brief personal correspondence), he's a pretty stand-up guy, but that's not enough to justify publically attesting to his innocence in this matter. I do thank NDPP for bringing this to our attention.
