PFLP: Our Struggle - Not Trump - Will Decide The Fate of Jerusalem

"The battle for Jerusalem is one for all of Palestine. For us, Jerusalem is Haifa, Safad, Yafa, Gaza, Ramallah and every village and city in Palestine!"
While Western Allies Criticize Trump's Jerusalem Move, Canada Remains Muted
http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/trudeau-trump-jerusalem-israel-1.4436251
"Canada is a steadfast ally and friend of Israel and friend to the Palestinian people. Canada's longstanding position is that the status of Jerusalem can be resolved only as part of a general settlement of the Palestin eian-Israeli dispute. This has been the policy of consecutive governments, both Liberal and Conservative.'
The department stressed the statement was issued in the name of spokesman Adam Austen, rather than Freeland herself.
At the United Nations, Canada under Trudeau continues to block resolutions condemning Israeli actions in the occupied territories - alongside the US, Israel and a small coterie of Pacific island nations that depend heavily on the US and traditionally vote in lockstep with it.
Last December, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Japan, China and 162 other nations all supported UN resolution 17/96 guaranteeing the protections of the Geneva Convention to Palestinian civilians in the occupied territories.
The Trudeau government joined forces with the United States, Israel, Micronesia, Palau and the Marshall Islands to oppose it..."

This whole thing is amusing. Everyone knows Israel’s capital is Washington D.C.
Trudeau also spoke of "the Jewish people and the Palestinian people". (the former in reference to the Israeli people, or state).
Trudeau rejects Trump approach to Jerusalem, favours ‘two-state solution’
"We will not be moving Canada's embassy to Jerusalem," Mr. Trudeau said Thursday morning in Guangzhou China, several hours before he was to board a plane to return home.
"Canada has a longstanding policy on the Mid-East. We need to work towards a two-state solution through direct negotiations. That is why we will continue to engage constructively and substantively in the region and with our partners and friends around the world." [...]
The Canadian government's official written policy on Jerusalem is that the "the status of Jerusalem can be resolved only as part of a general settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli dispute," according to the Department of Global Affairs."
"Canada does not recognize Israel's unilateral annexation of East Jerusalem."
We'll see where the Canadian government ends up on this issue. I'm not optimistic.
I'm not optimistic either, but I am pleasantly surprised Trudeau said this.
At least other countries that have done so, like Russia and the Czech Republic, have said they are moving it to West Jerusalem.
I'm not optimistic either, but I am pleasantly surprised Trudeau said this.
Me too. We should find the exact quotes and archive them for future use.
Any other Canadian party comment yet, now that Mulcair is gone? I think I should ask Alexandre Boulerice.
ETA: Oops, should have checked first - good statement, though they forgot to finish translating it!
"President Trump’s decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel is dangerous and misguided. His decision is contrary to international law and UN Security Council resolutions, and will certainly undermine attempts for a peace process. This decision has been condemned across the world, including by the UN and the governments of France, the UK, Sweden, Egypt, and Jordan.
This is a devastating day for those who believe in peace, justice and security in the Middle East.
Where is Canada’s voice in protest of this decision? New Democrats urge Canada to condemn this decision and formally démarche the American government."
Ok, I phoned Laverdière's office and pointed out the error in the English translation. They'll fix it.
Of course, that statement was yesterday, before Trudeau made his 50% decent comments on the issue. So maybe it helped to have an impact. There are also demos being organized in Montréal and elsewhere at U.S. consulates.
This is a done deal and just the beginning of major changes in the works.
For Trump, an Embassy in Jerusalem Is a Political Decision, Not a Diplomatic One
The Adelsons have long been leading donors to pro-Israel groups and causes, and have forged a close relationship with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. They have used their casino fortune to push the Republican Party and its politicians to embrace that line.
Early in Mr. Trump’s campaign for the Republican presidential nomination, he privately courted the Adelsons, seeking a meeting and asking for financial support, even as he publicly declared that he did not need or want backing from major donors.
In March 2016, Mr. Trump sought to burnish his credentials as a friend of Israel, telling the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, the most powerful pro-Israel lobbying group, “We will move the American embassy to the eternal capital of the Jewish people, Jerusalem.”
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/06/us/politics/trump-embassy-jerusalem-i...
Does Adelsdon haver kids? Because look at him. He looks like death warmed over. I can't see him living another 5 or 10 years. Question is.who will replace him? It could rather be worse.
"Jared Kushner appeared with billionaire Israeli-American media tycoon Haim Saban at the latter's annual forum on US-Israel relations. Saban took a moment to thank Kushner for his role in the subversion effort that Flynn admitted to have undertaken on Israel's behalf. 'To be honest with you, as far as I know there's nothing illegal there,' Saban told his stage companion. 'But I think this crowd and myself want to thank you for making that effort, so thank you very much.'
For all of the fears of Russian oligarchs having influence over Trump, the comment from the American oligarch reveals a great deal about who really influences practically everyone in Washington, Republican or Democrat. Saban was not a Trump donor. He is, in fact, Bill and Hillary Clinton's top all-time financial supporter, to the tune of more than $25 million; a benefactor whose generosity has helped build not just the Clinton Library but also the DNC headquarters.
But there has been no outrage from democracy-defending #Russiagate stalwarts over Saban's comments (or the Israeli subversion effort he endorsed).
And now we await to see how those who agonize over foreign influence on Trump will respond to his reported plans to move the American embassy to Jerusalem.
It is unlikely that Trump will be challenged on Israel because his approach is harmonic with a bipartisan consensus cemented in large part by the financial contributions of billionaires like Saban and his Republican pro-Israeli government counterpart Sheldon Adelson...Hence there are no editorials or opinion pieces denouncing Israel's 'Plot Against America,' or 'War on America', or warnings that 'Odds are Israel Owns Trump,'..."

The Trump Team Definitely Colluded With A Foreign Power - Just Not The One You Think
During the election Trump appointed openly Zionist people as his key advisers on the Arab/Israeli file and he clearly stated that as president he would recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel so this move cannot be considered collusion as it has been done above board by Trump and his advisers. They would actually be going back on their word if they did not recognize Jerusalem as being the capital of Israel during their first term in office. Trump's alleged collusion with Russia is completely different as it is said to have been done below board. On the other hand, Hillary said that as president she would not recognize Jerusalem as being the capital of Israel as that would hinder the peace process. Unfortunately the huge amounts of fake news clandestinely used against her during the election led to Trump winning and recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. So now all subsequent presidents of the U.S. and the rest of the world, including Russia, will have to recognize these new facts on the ground. Too bad Hillary lost because all that fake news generated from shady places during the election.

"Palestinian officials have expressed worry that Saudi Arabia is forgoing important Palestinian rights as it acts behind the scenes to advance a US 'grand bargain' over the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that heavily favors Israeli interests. Four Palestinian officials told Reuters on condition of anonymity on Friday that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman had communicated a proposal to Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas that would give away the right of return for Palestinian refugees and the status of Jerusalem al Quds as the capital of a future Palestinian state in return for conditions unfavourable to Palestinians, Reuters reported on Friday.
