Not only that, but those 4 seats the Liberals hold in Alberta are urban seats that generally wouldn't go to the Conservatives in any part of the country. It's possible those seats would have remained reasonably safe for the Liberals regardless, and that any collapse in Liberal support would have meant that instead of getting blown out in Fort Mac by 20 points, they'd get blown out by 60.
Still, tactically stupid. Singh and May are the big beneficiaries of this move, and it's also frightening that this disagreement between the Alberta and BC governments is being escalated as a war. I almost hope that Kenney wins the next Alberta election, just to see what happens after the pipelines fail to get built under his leadership despite the shrieking and hollering.
And I've said before that Notley made a miscalculation in putting so many of her political eggs into the pipeline basket. She should be doing much more to explain how she's doing things differently than the PCs did, how her green energy program is going, and how that will make Alberta less dependent on pipelines and helping people in Alberta. True, the oil and gas industry has lots of public support in Alberta, but there are also Albertans who realize that things need to change. If even the right-wing Republican state of Texas has a great deal of renewable energy, what is holding back Alberta?
Trudeau's support for the Texas billionaires pipeline has nothing to do with the seats in Alberta. Canadians had no trouble seeing the strings that the oil oiligarchy controlled Harper with but so far the oiligarchy are doing a better job of fooling Central Canadians when it comes to Trudeau's strings.
From the Left Coast it is clear that the Liberals are intent on increasing their seats in Quebec to offset the inevitable losses in BC. The Eastern pipeline is gone, Bombardier is protected as is the dairy industry and our BC forest is once again left dangling in the wind. BC's thriving tourism industry must be risked for the National Interest.

Jaccard says his research shows that when the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion’s fuels’ emissions are all added up — including the overseas burning of the bitumen in cars and factories —it will be impossible for Canada to meet its Paris Agreement climate commitments meant to restrain planetary warming to two degrees this century.

Tarsands expansion is a crime against indigenous people, their part of the planet, and settler farmers on their stolen part of it. We should stop putting it under the category of "economy" and start putting it under the category of "justice".
