First Oligarch's Sanctions Test - Dmitry Pumpyansky Takes New York Plunge; Holding Hands With Anatoly Chubais - by John Helmer

"Chubais, a board director of Pumpyansky's parent company in Moscow, has been the American candidate for ruling Russia since he ran the state privatization programme from 1992; President Boris Yeltsin's Kremlin; and then the breakup and selloff of the Russian electricity system. Chubais is the only powerful Russian official not to be named on last week's US Treasury list.
Pumpyanksy has already persuaded the US Department of Commerce that he's better for US interests than Pinchuk [Ukrainian oligarch & friend of Chrystia Freeland*] so is the IPSCO share listing in New York a test of whether Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin prefers investment bank and stockmarket profits to economic warfare with Russia's oligarchs...?"

Of course, if indeed Russian fighters were killed while fighting under covert circumstances - in the same way as killed US "military advisors" are kept under seal - that is the last thing Moscow would like to publicize. Unless of course the political calculus shifts, and Putin decides that it is time for a full-blown military escalation, in which case the deaths will be used as the justification behind any armed conflict....

Russian Nuclear Weapons Render Missile Defences 'Useless' Putin Says

"I want to tell all those who have fuelled the arms race over the last 15 years, sought to win unilateral advantages over Russia, introduced unlawful sanctions aimed to contain our country's development. All that you wanted to impede with your policies have already happened,' he said. You have failed to contain Russia.
The Russian leader emphasized that the development of new weapons that have no equivalent in the West came in response to US withdrawal from a Cold War era treaty banning missile defences and US efforts to develop a missile defence system. He said that the US has ignored Russian complaints. 'No one has listened to us,' he said. 'You [will] listen to us now.'

Important article. Thanks. Putin, like Orban, Trump, Netanyahu, is a fascist who promotes an ethno-nationalism, combined with Goebbles-like propaganda.
And then there's his idea of theater to go along with that ideology - a conspiracist biker gang cirque du soleil. In case anyone thought the Americans were the only ones resorting to this kind of jingoism.
