Mr. Trudeau: The King of Pedantry
Martin N.

Accusing someone of pedantry is quite serious.

From the above posted article:

Making the brash assumption that being the son of one of our most highly regarded prime ministers automatically qualified him do to the same, he ran for and won the party leadership in 2013.

In fact Justin Trudeau sat as a backbench MP for five years, and turned down invitations to run for the leadership at least twice.

To me that doesn't sound like someone who feels they are 'automatically qualified'.

Here at Canadianviews we don’t think governments are actually elected.

Heh,"we".

Reminds me of these guys...

It is rather odd that he calls himself a “feminist” as the root “fem” denotes female which is gender specific and contradicts his clarion call for gender neutrality. A more appropriate term is “egalitarian” which is equality for all.  Then too there is the matter of reverse sexism.

Feminism is a somewhat archaic term. It refers to the era when Betty Frieden and Gloria Steinem, and other capable women led the charge for women’s liberation; and won. The Pedant King was born fifty years too late and missed the real action. I have the inescapable suspicion he plays this feminist game to win votes from the fairer sex.  As recent polls show there is a backlash with male Liberal voters that could ensure his eviction.

But if "feminism" is gender-specific, and therefore unacceptable, it was equally so when Steinem and Frieden and other "capable women" were fighting for women's liberation. So you can't condemn it in the current era, while claiming to support the earlier struggles, as Billyward tries to do here.

Speaking of feminism:

To be fair, he did appoint a lot of Lady Cabinet Ministers.

Speaking of Steinem and the ERA movement, that was the early 70's. Hardly '50 years before Trudeau was born'

Who writes this shit. And that's what this (and the majority of Canadianviews ramblings) is. Pure 100% Grade A bullshit.

At least get some facts right and if you're going to write an article you should keep your personal issues out of it. Unless this was a commentary piece,in which it would help to get some facts right and not speaking for 'we' That's not me,that's you.

Speaking of the 'royal we', I often find it interesting to read and article and replace 'we' with 'I'. Gives a better sense of where the writer is at.

I suggest you folks look up "clickbait" in order to understand better how Billyard and his thinly disguised alter ego "indigo 007" operate. Even (well-deserved) mockery and ridicule amply serve their/his/its/our/my/her/fem/ purposes.

The jerk is too lazy to spell Betty Friedan's name correctly. And really, "the fairer sex"? What an asshole. Does not deserve to be discussed in our forum.

And no matter how much I dislike Justin Trudeau, I would never stoop to accusing him of podiatry.

Billyard must be having a ball.

LOL, I'm learning.

I think Sean in Ottawa came up with the real motivation for Billyard's starting all these threads here. It's SEO (search engine optimization). We don't know the details of how Google determines page rank, but we do know that one big factor is external links to a given page. So, if my blog article has a link from my friend's blog, this will increase my article's page rank slightly. However, a link to my blog article from the New York Times would result in a much greater increase of page rank. Now, rabble.ca is no NYT, but it is better than a link from another unkown blogger.

So, each link Billyard posts here increases the page rank of his drecky articles. What is said about him or his work here is immaterial.

I agree with Michael Moriarty. Billyard is trying to increase his Google search ranking. This rises according to an extremely complex and confidential algorithm at Google. According to an extreme programmer I know who worked there, what Google is really looking for is quality content to put at the highest ranking of the unpaid links. If you make quality content, people will find it anyway. If you set up your site with Google stats, your ranking will rise just for unique hits.

It is difficult to determine what quality content is by automatic means. However if Billyard's material is dreck especially including grammar and spelling errors, there may be a dreck-sniffer in the Google spider which will go through his site from time to time, and lower his ranking.

I think indigo should be banned simply for using 'pedantry' in a sentence. We must maintain standards, though picayune they may be.

We've been through the issue of banning Billyard already. As I recall, the mods first advised him that babble wasn't a forum for self-promotion, but didn't specifically order him to not to engage in that practice.

When he continued with the self-promotion, the mods said they were going to keep his threads open, and not ban his account, because he was generating discussion.

So, I guess the ball is really in our court now. If you really find Billyard's posts intolerable, notify the mods, and DON'T POST ON THEM.

Personally, I find Billyard's threads a little dubious, and a problematic precedent for anyone wanting to do the same thing, but not enough to dissuade me from commenting on the cornucopia of idiosyncratic weirdness that emerges from his blogsite.

We should ban him for using "pedantry", but you can use "picayune"?

JK.  Though I do wonder why babble wants to keep being his SEO solution when he contributes pretty much nothing.
