Ha ha. A "multipolar democratic world", read cartel of Empires to keep the entire human race in slavery. Getting lessons from the Russians about democracy is especially delicious.

The Pharaohs would be proud. There will be no escaping that. There will be no opportunity for self-imposed exile. You will conform or be killed.

Then the living will envy the dead.

Maksim Borodin fell from his apartment in Yekaterinburg, a major city in the Urals, last week and died from his injuries in hospital on Sunday, news agencies reported.

He worked for the news service Noviy Den (New Day) and recently wrote on the deaths of employees of the so-called "Wagner Group", the private army Moscow is using in Syria.

"There are no grounds for launching a case," the local investigative committee told the TASS news agency Monday.

From the above article:

"Just under 9 million, or about one-in-three, Canadians said they had experienced abuse before the age of 15."

How many of them were brats who had it coming anyway? That's what I was told when I was drowned, suffocated, strangled, burned with cigarette butts, etc.

Michael Moriarity

Back in the 1950s, when I was in elementary school, the saying "Spare the rod and spoil the child" was still widely accepted by parents in Canada. My own father, who was a lawyer, and later a judge, used a leather belt to discipline myself and my siblings, and this was not considered anything special. I can still vividly remember how painful it was, and what the welts on my butt looked like. I think we've made quite a bit of progress since then.

A worthy and related drift this. Yes, I experienced it too as did many of my friends. At 16 I'd had enough, ran away and lived happily ever after. More on the Russian case here:

Roughly the same size minority supports prison sentences for battery. A majority supports decriminalization with a combination of lesser penalties - fines, community service and brief detention - although not for the Church's reason, as this group believe, the administrative measures would increase reporting by victims, and add to deterence..."

The list of the worst offenders was topped by Italy, whose athletes committed 147 violations over the course of 2016. Italy is followed by France and the US, which have 86 and 76 doping offences respectively. Australia, with 75 doping cases, and Belgium, with 73, are in fourth and fifth places in the report. Russia, which has repeatedly been accused of doping by Western countries, tied for sixth place with India, with 69 officially confirmed violations.

Forty-three Russian athletes were disqualified from the 2014 Sochi Winter Games and banned by the IOC after the Olympic body followed up the WADA investigation, although 28 of those had their results reinstated and bans overturned after appealing to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Those 28, however, were not invited to Pyeongchang by the IOC.

So tell me do you think that Lance Armstrong and his teammates were just independent actors? The fact that the athletes were Russian means you vilify them sustantially more than any other athletes. You are so set in your Cold War mentality one would think it was 1980.

Riders on Armstrong’s team, the agency said, also kept a constant lookout for testers and relayed information about them to one another. Team officials often seemed to know when a supposedly unannounced drug test would occur.

When the testers could not be avoided, Armstrong and his teammates turned to drug masking, the report said. It indicated that during the 1998 world championships, testers were diverted to other riders on the United States team while one of Armstrong’s doctors “smuggled a bag of saline under his raincoat, getting it past the tester and administering saline to Armstrong before Armstrong was required to provide a blood sample.”

Just a reminder that the ban was not about numbers of athletes, and in fact 168 athletes from Russia competed in the most recent Olympic Games:

forgot one, and a fucking huge one at that! Japan! 9.4 tril.  As per ppp, Russia has the 5th largest economy with japan, India US and China at the top. When you account for the overinflated effect debt has on the economy, Russia actually has the 4th largest behind India.

Another special note is the Russian economy has surpassed Germany! And is growing!

This is a strong indicator that western nations have a weaker international influence. After all, Russia trades mostly with Eurasian countries such as China and India.

Western sanctions on Russia probably hurt western nations more than Russia

Interview with Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergei Lavrov

progressive17 progressive17's picture

Trump and Putin have the two largest nuclear arsenals in the world. There might be something worth talking about there.

Many Americans complain that Russian hackers somehow bought $500 worth of Facebook ads and swung the US election. They must blame anything but their own stupidity and technological incompetence.

If that little can affect the US election, doesn't that say more about American stupidity than anything that Russia could do? Compared to America, Russia is an economic pipsqueak. $50k vs. $9k GDP/capita. How could America, which supposedly invented the Internet and all the computers connected to it, not manage this situation? America has no one to blame but America. But still, certain Americans want to blame Russia. Time to grow up!

Hillary Clinton was definitely hawkish on Russia. She would have gone to war at the slightest pretext.

Astonishing how rhetoric is trusted by so many people.

Just call missiles peacemakers and the line-up of people lauding them will start. On both sides of course.

There also seems to be a desire for assumptions of simplicity -- if this approach is bad then the opposing one must be good....

There is no evidence at all that Trump or Putin are interested in peace any more than those they are against. There is no evidence to suggest that their plans are as benign as others suggest -- just becuase the system they want to upset is also not benign.

The enemy of your enemy does not have to be your friend.
