"Good briefing for Ambassador today by Security Cabinet member Minister Naftali Bennett...Canada agrees Israeli security and defence are paramount."

'Canada agrees'/Canada supports - Let's compare how many Torontonians show up  FOR Gaza vs how many FOR Israel, 'Walk With Israel' , May 27, so we can begin to face realities and dispel illusions about the true nature of things here...Get your ass to this important protest!

"I already killed lots of Arabs in my life and have absolutely no problem with that." N Bennett

Fuck Israel!

I wish we could change the thread title a bit to broaden it. It is important to rally people, not only in Toronto. There was a rally here in Montréal and my friends and I were uninformed of it, though we are veteran activists, many of us involved with this very cause. I guess they assume everyone is on Facebook.

It has been my experience that coordinated information on such things is haphazard and hit and miss at the best of times. I only found out about the rally for Gaza in Toronto from the JDL site organizing a counter-rally. And I consider myself reasonably well connected.  One of the developmental tasks of Canadian activism is to try and get serious about such things. The results of not being so, are obvious all around us.

Good point lagatta.  I missed a demo in Ottawa, even though I try to follow everything that is happening and am connected to a number of pro-Palestinian organizations.

Yes, it is important to keep up the pressure. I've been involved in this for  long time, and was heavily involved with the last Canadian boat to Gaza (on the press committee, writing and translating) but due to circumstances a little less recently. Ideally we should have some kind of site similar to manifencours (about demos and other actions here, for many causes) devoted to this issue, as I fear things will only get worse. The violence is so over the top that Jewish and to some extent Israel-identified media (such as Haaretz, and Forward in the US) are expressing unqualified outrage.

We must also remember that a new (or revived) factor is the heightened presence of neo-Nazis and other white supremacists, with the tacit support of Trump. They hate all "Semites", whether Jews or Arabs, and love the idea of a death trap for all of them.

Ottawa, like here, has large Middle Eastern communities. Not all are progressive, but I sense a general feeling of disgust about what is going on now.

Wow, I stopped reading when I got to that.

"So-called progressive Zionist media"? Why do say "so-called"? and why do you call them "Zionist"? You will never find in any of our mainstream media the scathing analysis and criticism of the Israeli regime that you'll find in Haaretz for example - which is a daily newspaper in Israel. Are you suggesting they weren't showing "serious signs of outrage" before the recent events? And you say "even" Haaretz and Forward are showing those signs?

Maybe I misunderstood what you're getting at. But those two organs (especially Haaretz) are a far better source for exposure of Zionism and Israeli outrages than any media in Canada - including the non-MSM variety. You should have come to see Haaretz columnist Gideon Levy when he spoke at Concordia in November 2014. Nothing "so-called" about that courageous individual, excoriated by Zionists everywhere, child of Holocaust survivors, one of my personal heroes.

lagatta4

I'll change that if you wish. My intention was not to put down Haaretz, especially with their sterling articles and comments this week.

Edited. Hope the new version is acceptable.

Thanks, lagatta. I was really just astonished and was pretty sure I wasn't understanding your meaning - knowing where you stand on these issues. It's more than clear now!

Levy's one of my faves too. His latest:

60 Dead in Gaza and the End of Israeli Conscience  -  by Gideon Levy

"It's difficult to think of a more atrocious moral eclipse..."

Gideon Levy : No Opposition in Israel as Netanyahu Massacres Gazans (and vid)

"Renowned Israeli journalist Gideon Levy says ' the victims of Gaza hardly touch anyone in Israel..."

I fear we will see in the upcoming Toronto 'Walk With Israel' this same phenomenon here.
