Likeable Horwath is making huge inroads but will it be enough?
Ontario Election June 7, 2018
Andrea needs to start asking Liberals for their vote to defeat Ford. Not much time left.
Agree.
Beleaguered Wynne joins Ford on anti-NDP bandwagon, warning Andrea Horwath’s party would be bad for business

The great thing about Liberals is their ideological “flexibility.”
Stratford is winnable. A Horwath win here, flipping a Ford incumbent, would move Andrea two seats closer to Ford. Add Peterborough and Sarnia......
Andrea needs to start asking Liberals for their vote to defeat Ford. Not much time left.
Basically Andrea need to repeat what Kathleen Wynne said in 2014, word for word. Except substitute the name "Tim Hudak" for "Doug Ford" and saying not vote Liberal.
Are there any ads?
I've been actually quite surprised by the lack of ads by all of the parties. Yes I have seen ads, but not the onslaught we normally see. Wonder if that has to do with the recent rule change, have they limited ads by the parties and third parties.
Or maybe I have been tuning out this election (as I can't stand Ford) and haven't noticed the frequency, if there has been an onslaught.
Andrea needs to start asking Liberals for their vote to defeat Ford. Not much time left.
No absolutely she does not.
People can see and where it makes a difference figure it out themselves. It will look bad for Andrea if she does this. It will get used against the NDP in future elections and the NDP does not believe in this excepting in the ridings it would make a difference and there are very few of them and the people living there are able to see it for themselves.
I suspect that this has already happened which is why the Liberal vote may be more consolidated than people realize meaning they may hold more seats than anyone is predicting.
I stopped watching tv a few years ago, but I've seen many Doug Ford ads in front of YouTube videos in the past 2 weeks.
Doug Ford says his entire platform is on the PC Party Website
But don't waste your time looking for the PC numbers with their platform, because to do you need to give up your data info. Name, email address and check a box whether you will support Doug Ford or not.

In the last 24 hours the official Liberal twitter account has published 9 attacks on the NDP and 1 attack on Doug Ford. I don’t know about you, but in this election I’m more focused on stopping Doug Ford. That’s certainly what voters are telling me on the doorsteps.
Time is almost over.
Why is Doug Ford's afraid to produce a costed platform?
#1 - Is it because voters would freak out if they ever saw Doug Ford's platform?
#2 - Or is because Doug Ford is not capable of producing it?
#3 - Or finally is it just basically Doug Ford delivering a big FU to the voters of Ontario?
I'll go with #3
Is tomorrow the last day for advanced polls? Get out and vote tomorrow if you can.
What did Kinsella say about Liberals dying with dignity, some dignity, at least a little bit of dignity, or something to that effect!

I wonder if the Toronto Star or the CBC will ever publish an article without taking shots in some way, as they always manage to slide it in, at the NDP.

Just like in the United States, the press wants Ford to win. He is much more exciting for journalists to cover and (though I have no evidence) it would probably boost newspaper circulations and supper time news ratings. Trump has already done that for USA outlets
The bottom line is money. If Ford can increase their circulation numbers and ratings (who doesn't want to witness a train wreck), it means higher profits for them. That is why they are being such apoligists for Ford, glossing over many of his questionable candidates and links to Rebel Media and other 3rd Party Conservative Groups.

This is very true.
There is nobody without an interest -- and the media likes someone who will make news. Look at the US and Trump for the same thing.
That said back in the 80s and 90s I often heard that reporters were more often Conservative or NDP but the outlets were often Liberal. We should ot assume that the interest of the outlet or editorial is the same as the beat reporter and camera people. Since the 1990s the politicization of the news rooms became more commonplace and this started with the Conrad Black outlets who demanded right of centre positions from many people who previously had been left alone. Before then you often had to read an editorial to get a sense of the outlets stance becuase other reporters were more or less free.
As the media became more desperate and readership/viewers could not be taken for granted this bias towards anything that will make news became more important. Years ago people who bought papers bought them every day. Now you need to have a reason to want to. (And of course that will be mostly online.)

People bought papers for information they could not get anywhere else. Stock prices. Sports tables. But I think what really did newspapers in the most was Craigslist. Papers used to make a fortune on classified ads. Now it is all gone.
This race on babble seems to have been all about the leaders and the parties. Are there any local races of interest to you?

Agreed. This would be political kryptonite for the NDP. Saying it will only get her negative impressions, bad press, and make the party look disingenuous and inconsistent. I wonder if they can resist the urge. Andrea going after Ford like crazy in the debate suggests that her party knows this and will avoid.

Why??? She does not need to say anything. Anyone who would react to that know already. This is a Liberal tactic to try to move pople by telling them to vote strategically and it never looks good for the NDP to try it and it does not help anyway.
Great news!
CP rail strike is over (well the Teamsters members have to ratify it), which is exactly what Andrea has been saying about allowing the collective bargaining process to happen.
Andrea needs to remind voters of this dumbass decision, and Ford's idiotic solution to it.

Another day, another poll showing her New Democrats climbing. And cutting a swath through southwestern Ontario, methodically mowing the Liberals’ lawn and encroaching on Tory territory.

Here's a Doug Ford headline:
Doug Ford's platform mentions beer more often than women!
A campaign platform reveals a lot about a party’s values. The @OntarioPCParty “platform” mentions beer more than it mentions women. It also doesn’t mention social services, OSAP, pharmacare, dental care, pensions ... I could go on. Honestly. Is this some kind of joke?

What bothers me about this election is that many of the people voting in NDP or no to doing it necessarily because they like the NDP but rather they're voting against the other two.
sorry Musfit, I like some of your comments so please forgive me for my comment.
But that’s a load a garbage! In fact, most of the comments if not at least half of what I’ve read since last at this thread is just garbage to read.
Everyone here is an old person or at least is that’s where many commentators mindset is at!
Ive been hearing a lot of attacks on Horwath and her candidates, and their fuckin awesome!!! I was driving home on the gardiner expressway and I seen an anti NDP add with Bob Rae’s picture beside Andrea! Fuckin Awesome! And fuckin hilarious at the same time!
Im hearing attacks calling ONDP candidates self proclaimed Marxists and anti police.
These attacks are driving the ONDP polling numbers higher and higher!
This is for several reasons
First it’s free advertising. Constant ONDP exposure. Secondly people are only so stupid. Like the saying goes fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. And thirdly we’re finally starting to see the twilight of the brainwashed baby boomer voters!(and oh god it couldn’t come soon enough!) But not all baby boomers are brainwashed into materialism greed.
Sorry to burst your bubble but my opinions are not garbage. I think you don't understand what I'm getting at is the problem.
I live in Saskatchewan and the NDP governed for 50 years in our history. With the exception of Manitoba and BC and perhaps the Territories, The NDP cannot survive more than one term.
So the other provinces have this scenario where they get elected on an anti-other party shit storm and only last one term in office.
The Ontario NDP has a very dedicated core support base and these people are fantastic. But outside that core of support, you have a large mass of undecided voters who look to the Liberals and the Conservatives and only consider the NDP in very rare circumstances.
Therefore the NDP has been more of a reactionary party to victory and it has to learn how to get reelected where undecided voters get a serious look that this is a very legitimate alternative to the other two mainline parties.
back during the days of the CCF the politics was very polarized but people who supported the CCF in large numbers were voting for something and that for something kept getting them re-elected.
Ontario has to learn to see the NDP as a positive choice for progressive change.
AND GET RE-ELECTED!!!
Re: Doug Fords Lack of a Costing Platform:
Dave Hudak pledged in his campaign for the last election that he would cut 10,000 civil service jobs. He tanked in the polls.
So Doug Ford figured that he would be clever and say that he's going to cut $6 billion dollars and it wouldn't cost anybody any jobs.
He can't come up with any specific figures because it can't be done without sacrificing jobs and government services.
