CTV says Mas Schreiner (Green) elected.
Well that was quick.
hahahhaha lol. It will be very hard for Andrea to pick a cabinet now.
PCs 40%
NDP 35%
Libs 18%
Well that was quick.
Electronic voting.
70-39-8-1
21 minutes for a majority government
This is disastrous. The Liberals must be happy.
CBC is indirectly slamming FPTP right now, talking about how progressive voters have 60-65% of the vote and no representation.
I'm amazed by the size of the green lead in Guelph.
Seems OLP might hold on to official party status after all.
Days of Action coming, no doubt!
Pondering, why would the Liberals be happy?? I suppose Liberal candidates might be happy about (probably) retaining bare minimum official party status, but I don't see why Liberals supporters would be happy.

I was referring to the party not supporters in general but even supporters must be relieved that they are maintaining official party status.

Next time, Liberals will have an easier time beating PC's than NDP.
The official party is not that important. ONDP lost it in 2003, and regained the status in 2007. I don't think the voting public noticed any difference. As long as the party has at least 1 elected MPP and can participate in the leaders' debate.
Peterborough has since 1977. And I bet it will tonight as well.
Peterborough was just called for PCs.
Out of province observer and I really thought that there was a chance for the NDP to win or at least hold power in a PC minority government. This is so disappointing.
I took it being a post in an Ontario Election thread doesn't need to clarify the location. I think he was just adding a bit of levity with no ill will intended.
That's right.

Job well done for you then?

We could also assume a lot of them(including Wynne)would rather have seen this type of result than even a minority NDP government.

North never wanted a PC win. He just gets a bit melodramatic about swings in the polls, as he showed in the last coupld of days.

They wouldn't ever even have had that THIS time. The areas that swung PC were going to swing PC no matter which party was in second. And it was never going to be possible for the Liberals to come back from being 20 points behind.
Looks like the NDP lost ground in the final days.

Conservatives were leading in all the polls the last 2 years. The only thing that could have stopped them was Ford. And he wasn’t enough.
Cons will win more often than not inspite of progressives being in majority. Reason is some progressives dont like others because they are not progressive enough.
That’s a massive Doug Ford majority so Liberals can’t be blamed for all of it
1. Now Notley and Trudeau have a big ally in the pipeline debate.
2. The CAQ will be rubbing their hands in glee, and now this means Couillard can tack right instead of left to compete. Legault will call Ford to congratulate him, and Ford will say "Who?"
3. Like after the Trump election, there should be a pop on the Toronto Stock Exchange as the 1% also rub their hands in glee.
4. Because Ford didn't say he would do much, he does not have to do much to be able to get the Mike Harris reputation of "He did what he said what he would do", even if he made them swallow razor blades.
5. Privatization of many things which have not been privatized yet.
6. Driving a tank through the Canada Health Act to allow a large proliferation of private health clinics, as we have in Quebec. $1 beer analgesia for everyone else.
7. Labour unrest as he tries to lay off thousands of Ontario civil servants.
8. "Free Speech" for the alt-right on college campuses.
9. Ford can let Deco Labels sink, now he has a better job, and prospects for a very nice future career in the bigtime private sector after slashing and burning the government. Deco bankruptcy to follow.
10. Less money for education, paving the way for more Conservative governments in the future. Students will be told to use Wikipedia instead of teachers.
If you had to choose one riding as a bellweather riding which one would it be?
Ottawa Centre?
Orleans.
It has voted the way of the winning party for the past 2 decades, both provincially and federally.
Peterborough has since 1977. And I bet it will tonight as well.
Orleans ended up voting OLP...Ottawa Centre voted ONDP.
It's in the interest of the Cons to give the Liberals party status even if they do not win eight seats because the resources would likely help the splitting of the vote on the centre and left in order to try to hopefully continue the same old Lib-Con-Lib-Con-Lib-Con system of rule when the people get tired of the Cons. It may not work if they try but one thing is for sure, both of them will continue the be afraid, be very, very afraid of the scary NDP.
I wouldn't count on Ford doing it. He's a bully. The official party status does not matter to voters anyway.
They might not do it but it is to their advantage to do it.
That requires some long-term strategic planning, which I don't think Ford is capable of. If OLP gets less money, they will be slightly less of a threat to Ford during the next election.
Lisa MacLeod says Doug is the next Ralph Klein. How reassuring!
The PCs won the government
the NDP is Official Opposition for 4 long years
The Liberals don’t even have party status
Who cares about the Liberals anymore except their cronies in the CBC!
Andrea did an amazin job
https://globalnews.ca/news/4255960/ontario-election-ndp-campaign/
How much was the NDP official opposition able to achieve federally 2011-2015?
This is the worst result for the NDP. If Horwath can't beat Ford, if the NDP can't win ridings like Kenora and Brant and Sarnia and Scarborough-Rouge River now, when will they?
Does the NDP have a ground game? They are underforming their worst polls at this point.
Just the usual Liberal talking points - no matter what happens attack the NDP!
Congratulations Andrea ya done good!

No the worst result for a party was that of the Liberals in every way. Actually the worse result is for the people of Ontario. It's revealing that you don't talk about the latter.
Not only that but regardless of the silly Liberal talking points here this is going to be a freakin nitemare for Trudeau. 2019 might well be an exceptionally good year for Jagmeet Singh and the federal NDP

The Liberals are done for!
They won't be back in 4 years!!
4. Because Ford didn't say he would do much, he does not have to do much to be able to get the Mike Harris reputation of "He did what he said what he would do", even if he made them swallow razor blades.
One of Ford's big promises is to fire the CEO of Hydro One. I don't know how he can do this since Hydro One is now privatized.
Would progressive Ontario voters want Jagmeet Singh to do as "well" in Ontario as Horwath did? And usher in another Con majority government federally? I don't think so. It was a failed experiment. The NDP can't win 905.

Trudeau's going to have a nightmare running against Scheer and now Ford!! Trudeau must be disconsolate at losing the advantage of being linked with a popular premier like ex-Premier Wynne!!
We are now witnessing the usual Liberal behaviour when they get crushed They start flailing about looking for anyone but themselves to blame
The NDP doubled their number of seats and the Liberals were so decimated they didn’t even get party status
In the Legislature for the next 4 years the Liberals will have the same status as the one Green. My hunch is that the Greens could do better than the Liberals in the next Ontario election
Andrea doubled her seat count and is now the Leader of progressive Ontario. Next election Andrea will become Premier
