Orrin Hatch was lying.
Obama should have nominated a woman or minority and then made a full press. At minimum that would have stirred up some people who didn’t show up to go out and vote. But slouching toward irrelevance was more Obama’s style.
The US Supreme Court is just another of its failed institutions. The idea of their constituion is too have a division of powers. When the court's decisions can be predicted with certainty based on party affliation it is no longer the independent judicial system that it was meant to be.
