It’s believed Comartin will be the first local resident to hold the position in Detroit, which was established in 1948. He assumes office Oct. 29.
“I was surprised quite frankly when I was approached about interest in the position,” said the 70-year-old Comartin, who represented the riding of Windsor-Tecumseh from 2000 to 2015. “I wasn’t looking to get involved again.
