More bad news for Justin. And this one is just starting

NorthReport

Is SNC-Lanvalin not already the most discredited company in Canada? Remember this the same company that was involved in paying temporary foreign workers $3.77 an hour to work on the RAV line in BC and had the largest human rights tribunal settlement in Canada made against them

I wonder what the voters in Outremont think about this and hopefully they are quickly being brought up to scratch about it

This is a very good article by 2 former prosecutors with full expertise in the field of corporate criminal law and practice. It shows the Trudeau government attempting to follow the U.S. pattern of allowing big, powerful corporations to avoid prosecution by paying a fine. This behaviour is very corrosive to the public's respect for the legal system.

Hi Michael Moriarity

I'm thinking North Report didn't fully read the article because of this I pulled out

Given the Trudeau government’s repeated refrain that we are a country bound by the rule of law in the context of the Meng Wanzhou extradition proceedings, it is troubling to learn that the PMO may have been actively pressuring then-attorney-general Jody Wilson-Raybould to enter into a remediation agreement with SNC-Lavalin. This flies in the face of the deeply entrenched constitutional principle that attorneys-general must act independently of partisan concerns. Ms. Wilson-Raybould should be commended for refusing to give in to political pressure to direct the conduct of a continuing prosecution.

I now suspect North Report will completely back away from any anti China anti HuaWei anti Meng Wan Zhoe comments threads etc etc.

This case shows that Justin and his liberals are more racist than the previous conservative government! One set of rules and approach for white people/companies, another standard for non whites!

So much for the pollyanna legal fiction of Canada's 'independent, impartial' justice system. Too bad the No Difference Party is in such a shambles. Increasingly looks like the stone-sinking Liberanos will prepare the CONs return.

Are you saying the Canadian government should treat foreign corporations the same as Canadian ones?

Since some parts of our Charter include corporations as persons, in some matters they have to be treated equally especially given the grey areas in our modern global economy as to which companies are foreign and which are Canadian. Then of course there are all the corporate trade agreements that actually give foreign corporations more rights to attack communities than Canadian ones.

I think that SNC-Lavalin is a cancer on our public infrastructure system. They have been banned internationally for corruption and they have still been allowed to bid and win contracts in BC. Even after they oversaw the abuse of the foreign workers on the Canada Line they still were allowed to bid and win the contract for the Evergreen Line. Given the BC Rail corruption it is plausible to believe that some BC Liberal operatives made good money in some "unrelated" manner.

They were also one of the main contracting suppliers for US Army ammunition during the Gulf War. Also longtime BDS busters not that it seems to matter much. Under Trudeau, Apartheid Israel's collaboration including with Canadian business grows by leaps and bounds yet nothing is said. No, actually my comment was towards the corrupt racist hypocritical liberal government. It was not intended to provide any advise as to what should have been done, only as criticism.

You raise a good point -- although it may not have been a question of racism.

Consider that it may be motivation.

If the Liberals have party or personal interests in this case, it may demonstrate that they are willing to breach the seperation of the judiciary for personal or party reasons just not in areas of the national interest. Given the history of Liberal priorities, I don't think I am being unfair.

Trudeau sure doesn’t sound like he has nothing to hide

"

Let me return to what I regard as Mr. Trudeau’s strange strain of response to the Globe and Mail’s reporting.

When a person knows that an allegation is completely off the rails, knows that what is being hinted at or directly charged is baseless, without merit, completely off track, that person is immediately invested with a miraculous fluency and liberality of expression. He can really let fly. Politicians in particular pray for such moments. Even the poorest speaker in such a case is suddenly gifted with marvellous eloquence and directness and dismisses the question with blistering scorn, utterly without qualification or equivocation.

There was no energy, no force, no impulse of conviction or outrage in the early Trudeau replies on Thursday. It was a stumbling and nerveless, lawyerly as we say when we wish to indicate someone is dancing barefoot on hot coals and pretending the shoes he isn’t wearing are a little tight."

I believe the real Trudeau is the guy who marched across the House to elbow a woman out of his way, drunkenly groped a reporter and had his daddy's lawyers pay her off and showed his pettiness by launching the apparatus of the state ( and a dishonest apparatus,at that) at an honourable man for simply doing his job. (Admiral Mark Norman.)

Trudeau is now showing his virtue-signalling to be mere theatrics employed to buttress the thin resume of a part-timer-at-everything dilettante in way over his head.

Canadians can, however, thank him for a National Day Care policy. It is too bad that he is the only one enrolled.

Strange it is how little interest there is in this topic. How very l(L)iberal to avoid any unpleasantness regarding corruption. The Librano brand resurfaces and idiot Trudeau has no idea that by demoting Jody Wilson Raybould he has sown the seeds of his own destruction.

Jody stands accused of being 'difficult' and not a 'team player' but, if she were a man she would be 'decisive' and one not suffering fools glady. Trudeau is about to find out that the FirstFeminist dilettante cockapoo is up against a pit bull in lipstick with a couple of hundred years of grievances against elitist poseurs like him.

Martin N why are you taking a story about corruption and abuse of authority and deflecting it into a sexual innuendo slag fest?

This has the potential to destroy the re-branded Liberals with the exact same brush as the Ad-Scam scandal did.  The Liberal party insiders are corrupt to the core and this just shows it one more time.

NorthReport

Of course the denials are fast and furious but who is going to believe the Trudeau/Butts tag team now?

There are a couple serious developments happening in the background:

This is a serious potential scandal that if the evidence proves any of the allegations the Liberals will have an extreme scandal.

At the same time we have the breaking story about US big Pharma wanting to attack the policies of the federal government to reduce drug prices. There is potential for a Trump conflict here:

https://www.cbc.ca/news/health/phrma-drug-prices-pharmaceutical-industry...

Canada has a poor position as it will once again be attacked for something it can do little about. The Canadian healcare industry is much more vulnerable to the effects of rising drug costs than the US (first due to the purchase of drugs as for example all drugs dispensed in hospital are covered as well as any Pharmacare plan. A provincial pharmacare plan will be in conflictwith the Liberals if there is not mitigation on prices.

Second there is potential conflict with not just Trump but the public and the economy itself when you consider the effects of the steel and aluminium tariffs.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/steel-tariffs-exclusions-canada-china-1...

It would not surpise me if Trump were to be trying to sink Trudeau by damaging the Canadian economy as much as possible before our election which is slightly over a year before his.

Combine this with the stnech of corruption and the thin support Trudeau has now and you can see a recipe for disaster for the Liberals.

To make matters worse, the Liberals are a hair above the Conservatives, the Greens are not up very much and the NDP is way down: not a lot of votes to beg for and the chance the NDP will improve is significant given the low present number. If the NDP recovered to 20% at the cost of the Liberals they would be below the waterline.

That would undermine Trudeau's electoral strategy of winning a second majority by running the table in Quebec.

Liberals were counting on people from this province not to support Scheer or the NDP's Jagmeet Singh. Now, all bets are off.

Or they could vote for the other two parties with Quebec leaders. Same ignorance as in the Tyee article.

NorthReport

Well it sure looks like Trudeau is about done. Will he be able to hold on to power for another term amidst this latest SNC scandal is the question as the timing has to be about the worst possible for the sitting government

There is obviously no love lost between Jody Wilson-Raybould and the PMO, so will she be able to remain in cabinet, as you don’t want to be heading into an election campaign without loyalty around the cabinet table?
