Sorry no, he's getting re-elected. True people hate him, but that doesn't mean they will be motivated to vote for the Democrats. It's also not clear exactly what public policy the Democrats will be offering. Furthermore, after the DNC cheats and installs another corporatist, many on the left of the Democratic Party will be so outraged that they will not want to support him, simlar to what happened in 2016.

No meaningful difference between the 2 parties. The Democrats are bought by the same special interests as the Republicans, they are just more polite about it. Green Party or Bust in 2020.

I disagree. The mid-terms was a pretty good indication that Trump is done. I'm not sure if he will even be President before the election.

He's a vapid moron.

BTW,Green Party or bust? Trump''s sickening personality is not enough for people to vote Democrat? First off, the Greens will be lucky to get 1% of the popular vote, they are going nowhere in a hurry. And I'm tired of this constant false equivalincies between the Repugs and the Dems and in Canada the Libs and the Cons. There is a huge difference between these parties. *Yawn,* more of the same yelling and screaming that happens whenever a Republican is in power. Despite what liberals  said, the sun's been rising in the east and setting in the west as it always have, and stars are not falling to earth and scorching it on impact. So Trump is corrupt? He's a politician, do you think people actually expect them to behave ethically?

It's true people hate Trump. That's not an argument to vote Democrat, and pointing out his flaws just reinforces people's perceptions that all politicians are corrupt and that politics is a waste of time. Especially post-Sanders, where Sanders has articulated so many public policy ideas that people can get behind. There is a growing number of voters who want single payer health care, a green new deal, tuition free college, legalized marijuana, and ending foreign military adventures. Trump or no Trump, if these items are not on offer in a public election, then these people will just stay home on election day.

I hear you. Nobody denies the shocking reality of such a thing. But what the war pigs really wish is  for you to believe their soldiers' warcrimes are all about democracy promotion and 'humanitarian intervention' etc. Better to speak the unvarnished truth about such things, IMHO especially in Canada where denial and avoidance of unpleasant realities is deeply ingrained.

Seriously? You're going to comparte Trump to any other politician? Have you been sleeping since 2015 when he came down the escalater to a crowd that was staged with people getting paid $50

He's a racist and a malignate narcissist and a proven moron. His policies are not just hurtimg te US but Canada as well.

He picked up the rock where all the deluded mouth breathers and American domestic terrorists were waiting to see the light of day. He constantly calls the media and I quote the media is the ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE. He's had journalists manhandles and assaulted. He lies CONSTANTLY every one more outrageous than the next.,  he loves despots around the world over US allies  Etc...etc...etc

Liberals yelling and screaming everytime a Republican is in power? He's just a politician? He's a fascist and if you want to defend him,he's turned the Republican partyy into a neo-nazi group. That's the truth.

So make sure not to lose your red hat and join his lobotoimzed bottom feeding groupies at one of Trump's beer hall rallies. You can join the circle jerk.

You want to defend Trump? Then defend Stalin,Mussolini and Hitler (that's not Godwin's law. Godwin even said it)

Anyway. he's not winning in 2020. Most Americans (a clear majority) hate this motherfucker and see 2020 not as a typical electiom but more a referendum. They (most Americans) think their democrocy being taken away.

So yeah. Trump will be turfed next year. After that you can eat all your words.

ETA ; If you'rre so cavalier about politicians are expected to be corrupt, then why are you trashing Trudeau for being the same?  hypocrisy much?

As for people staying home, I think you are wrong. Wrong wrong. I think  there will be a big voter turnout. And the reason? Getting rid of their neo-nazi president. The Democrats are going to win easily. You under estimate the 'resistance'

What Do We Know About Trump’s Re-election Chances So Far?

natesilver (Nate Silver, editor in chief): The case against Trump is that he’s pretty darn unpopular. The case for Trump is that the Democratic nominee might be pretty darn unpopular too.

sarahf: In other words, 2016 all over again.

natesilver: Yeah. A huge question is whether Clinton’s performance was unique to Clinton and her particular problems, or whether her position was closer to a “generic Democrat.” If it’s the former, Trump is an underdog. If it’s the latter, he might be the favorite.

perry (Perry Bacon Jr., senior writer): Part of the question is whether you think Hillary Clinton was uniquely unpopular or that by 2020, Joe Biden or whoever the Democratic nominee is will be viewed by most Republicans and many GOP-leaning independents as an abortion-loving socialist who hates Midwestern voters and the police, no matter what that person’s actual views are. And, I guess, I take the second view — negative polarization will do a lot of the work in 2020 for Trump.

natesilver: I mean … without getting into the whole “electability” question, I think Biden might be able to avoid that particular characterization.

perry: But will the Biden-Abrams ticket be able to avoid that?

natesilver: Wait, are you breaking some news re: Stacey Abrams?

sarahf: Now if it’s Beto …

nrakich (Nathaniel Rakich, elections analyst): It’s the age-old question: Is a presidential election a referendum or a choice? If it’s a referendum on the current administration, Trump is in trouble. If it’s a choice between two parties, Trump has a good shot.

geoffrey.skelley (Geoffrey Skelley, elections analyst): To me, “It’s the economy, stupid.” If the economy remains on its present course, some econometrics models would suggest Trump is an even bet or even a favorite to win re-election.

perry: Yeah, I don’t think the economy will matter that much. i.e., wasn’t the economy great in 2018 and Republicans still lost their majority in the House?

nrakich: Maybe the economy right now isn’t relevant, but the economy in 2020 will be.

natesilver: The notion that a good economy helps incumbents is broadly right, but fundamentals models can be overrated, and some of them are badly designed.

If I’m Trump, I’d be a little scared that my approval rating is only at 41 or 42 percent when the economy is quite good.

perry: If the economy is terrible, will that hurt Trump? Sure. But is the reverse true? Could he lose with a great economy? I think so.

natesilver: I’m not an economic forecaster, but I know that the economy is mean-reverting, meaning that since it’s good now, it’s more likely to get worse than better.

And if Trump’s approval is at 41 or 42 percent with a good economy, where does that put him with a mediocre economy?

nrakich: He definitely has more downside than upside, IMO. Like, it’s harder to see things getting much better for Trump. But it could definitely get worse, if there’s a recession or if special counsel Robert Mueller’s reportis really bad for him.

Right now, Trump looks like an even bet for re-election. But the status quo is probably his best-case scenario.

natesilver: I wouldn’t say it’s his best case. You could have 6 percent GDP growth! Who knows!

geoffrey.skelley: All this suggests to me that Trump’s re-election chances are tied to the economic news remaining positive. If that happens, I agree with Nathaniel that he’s a 50-50 bet. If we hit a recession or near-zero growth, I think that makes him an underdog.

natesilver: I’d guess it’s something like: 20 percent chance the economy gets really bad, 30 percent chance it gets worse but doesn’t go into recession, 30 percent chance it stays about the same, 20 percent chance it gets better. Something like that.

For recommending sanctions on a country that stole their party’s information and used it against them?  Seems pretty smart.  And the Putin apologists are being dishonest as usual.  They’re actually starting to rival Trump in their dishonesty.

How can we tell the difference between the sales and the substance? I find it hard telling these candidates apart in many respects. I end up for now with non-white-non-male and young as the bias I have. I have not heard enough to disinguish much more than that as I have little reason to trust one over the others.

wage zombie

Amy Klobuchar is the centrist of the bunch and one of the top candidates I would NOT want to see.  If Biden decides to run he would go in that category as well.

josh

Booker, Buttigieg and O’Rourke are more centrist than Klobuchar.  Klobuchar’s big problem is the way she’s treated her staff.

Pogo Pogo's picture

Jay Inslee.  Because he is a one issue candidate (with substance in other areas granted).  That issue is climate change and we should be in a one issue political discussion.

Aristotleded24

What a circus this is turning out to be. Now all of a sudden that left-wing ideas are in fashion, we have all of these corporate posers coming out and making statements that are popular. How can we trust them to follow through on their committments (to the extend that they have made any) once in office?

Of all the candidates vying for the Democratic Party nomination, there are only 2 who have demonstrated the courage to stand up for their convictions and principles, long before they were mainstream and against all odds. We've gotten to know them very well and understand that they are trustworthy. Those candidates are Tulsi Gabbard and Bernie Sanders. Everyone else can go home.
