What difference would it make?
Why not let International entities Finance domestic politics
Conflict of interest?
For who?
Both? If international entities financed Canadian politics wouldn’t the international entities loyalties be to foreign countries and wouldn’t the interests of those receiving the funds here in Canada also be to foreign countries?
But wouldn't the Canadian electorate ultimately decide?
I think most of the electorate are too busy with the necessities of living to be able to sufficiently oversee the political process. The US is a prime example of where money can Trump (pun intended) the interests of the electorate. I think there should be more limits, not less, on political donations in Canada than there are now.
Maybe politics should only be publicly financed by the government?
If nothing else, such a change would invite us all asking "why would someone who's not Canadian care so badly about the results of a Canadian election?"
It's a reasonable question. I might be interested in an election in Slobovia, and I might even be rooting for this or that party, but not enough to write one of them a fat cheque.
What difference would it make?
Since both the Liberals and Tories currently pass laws to help our Western imperial system it seems that the only changes would be cosmetic.
The more currency a political ideal has the better though. No?
