When he resigned, he explicitly denied that there had been any undue pressure from either the PMO or the PCO. He said he was resigning because he didn't want to be a "distraction". I didn't get it then, I don't get it now. But you're suggesting he's a liar? I'd need to see more evidence before coming to that conclusion.

He didn't quite say that. He said the fact that she was still in cabinet "speaks for itself". So she decided to resign, saying that her resignation "speaks for itself". I've been raising this very question here for weeks. She only came up with this explanation - when, yesterday or so? - and previously, the common wisdom was that she was not "allowed" to talk about her reasons for resignation because she had only been given a "waiver" for the time she was A-G. This makes absolutely zero sense.
The saddest thing in my view is that this whole "scandal" is an irrelevant distraction for first world folks who are comfortable and have nothing else to worry about except: "I told them I had made up my mind and they kept bothering me!!", and "We had to talk to her 5,000 times to make sure she understood about the jobs!!" Then everyone is supposed to take sides. These are all self-serving opportunistic servants of the 1%.

Her letter says:
We committed to change old and cynical patterns of centralizing power in the hands of a few unelected staffers, the marginalization of hundreds of members of parliament with expertise and insights to offer....
Maybe that happened but I don't remember that it did. If it did happen why did she use staffers to communicate with the PM? She has not claimed that she was blocked from speaking or writing to him directly.
I apologize for getting a personal (if you consider it that) but I think you're a really smart and open minded woman. I find it really strange that, in light of the clear evidence of Trudeaus true character, you continue to suggest JWR should have just went and talked to him.
I'm saying more than that. I'm saying it was her responsibility as Justice Minister and Attorney General to warn Trudeau directly if she believed his staff was treading on dangerous ground and doing it in his name. I'm saying that a person who is too intimidated to face the PM for fear he will yell is not qualified for the job no matter what their sex.
I'm saying suggesting JWR was too intimidated by Trudeau to face him directly, or even write him a note, is disrespecting her and all women. Just because she is a woman is no reason to jump to the conclusion that she felt too intimidated or afraid of Trudeau to speak to him directly.
MPs have now raised the issue of JWR not communicating directly with Trudeau and warning him of the behavior of his staff. If she found the idea of telling him what was going on too intimidating she will say so.

To me the biggest problem highlighted in this whole mess is that not even the most important cabinet members meet with the Prime Minister regularly. From September to January they didn't have a direct conversation on government plans and priorities? What is the PM doing if not overseeing his ministers? Parliament doesn't debate stuff. Is nothing even debated in cabinet? PM and and hired staff make decisions and ministers get their marching orders through staff no less?
We worry about members and backbenchers not having enough power within parties. JWR was Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada and for five months she communicated with Trudeau through staff? Am I crazy to have imagined that Cabinet Ministers were in regular communication with each other and the PM? At least a once a month in person update?
