So what's with the Conservatives now referring to Justin Trudeau as "Liberal leader" instead of Prime Minister, in Question Period? Aren't MPs supposed to be addressed by parliamentary title?

oh they are playing to their base and to those who voted for the Liberals because they wanted Trudeau as PM and are angry they did. backlash rejection feeding.

it's ugly and growing. this will feed the fire.

as an aside on the whole title thing i'm bit uncaring. the leader of the winning party, even if their party received the least amounts of public votes, becomes PM or Premier. imv the leader of a party us just 1 if many or should be.

"Conservatives" are merely an extension of Republicans I have concluded....

If they can call Juan Guaido the President of Venezuela, why can't they call Trudeau whatever they want? They don't respect any laws that impede their greed for power. Harpers conservatives flouted the law innumerable times, making the snc Lavalin issue tiny by comparison. Just as the republican party has been called out to be the biggest threat to peace & democracy by respected thinkers like Noam Chomsky, so too the Conservatives remain as the biggest, most corrupt lawbreakers in Canada.

Sadly, this is true, but it wasn't always so. When I was growing up, in the 1950s and 60s, the Canadian Progressive Conservatives, and even the U.S. Republicans were about where the Liberals and Democrats are now, if not even further left. No serious party denied science, or called for tax cuts at the expense of government services. Unfortunately, after the Powell memo, the billionaire class started seriously spending on perverting democracy, and now their plans have come to glorious fruition.

I agree substantially with both of you.

I date the onset of the billionaire fight back in Canada to Trudeau's 1974, Zap Your Frozen campaign. A very effective slogan mocking Stanfield's Red Tory promise to bring in wage and price controls to stem rising inflation. Pierre of course lied to the people, as Trudeau's are prone to do, and lo and behold it was wages that became frozen while prices were allowed to soar.

Yes, but it IS an advert. Made me laugh, darkly to read a republican ad asserting 'attend your union mettings!'

Those were very different times. The multinational corporations that made more profits every year than 160 countries entire GDPs combined were just young pimplefaced teenage bullies on the world schoolyard. People were more practical, down to earth, thoughtful. They were likely less jaded and cynical, but perhaps a bit more gullible, from a less diverse education & life experience, less exposure to (how many murders has a kid watched by the time they're 10 these days?). They had the occaisional radio show to listen to, a neighbour had a tv and once in a while would host a tv party. They had time to think about things. Just watch a tv show from those times. Modern people are morons by comparison, Im sorry to say... of course, it is a generalization im making.

Nowadays, politicians are a part of a wealth machine that employs crack troops of consultants covering every corner, in which the purpose is to win at any cost. Serving the public is secondary. ...Wait, last. Why are we paying politicians? Dont they make more from corporate bribes anyway? Think of all the money we would save, and still get the same level of service!
