Corbyn’s Labour and the path to power

Now, Corbyn has backed the referendum thingy.  Since he's done that, and since a general election could be called at any moment and it's too late for any party to change its leader in the run-up to, NOW will you get off Corbyn's case, nicky?  NOW will you agree that the fight to not only force him out but drive most of his supporters out of the party needs to stop, too?

The problem is he isn't fighting 'against' but colluding with. I realize that social democratic surrender monkeys like the Blairite, neoliberalist NDP have long been acceptable here in Canada but clearly the British public doesn't have the stomach for such waffling and weakness. Those who made him can and should discard him if he can't keep his promises and abandons them as seems quite clearly the case now with Brexit.

Corbyn is taking the only position on this that he can take and hold his party together.  He never promised to "fight FOR Brexit"-he promised that he would honor the results.  Since Brexit essentially can't be stopped, what else exactly could he do?

As to "Soft Brexit" -that would largely be about keeping the non-xenophobic immigration policies and access for British goods to European market.  As long as the UK is out of the EU, why couldn't you live with that?

Whatever happens, the UK has to keep a large amount of trade going with Europe-how do you envision them doing that under Hard Brexit?

You sound 'soft-brexit' slippery Ken just like Labour politicians. Corbyn can't even implement much of Labour's manifesto inside the EU. British Steel is toast under EU rules despite Corbyn's empty blather about 'bail outs'. As for 'non-xenophobic' immigration policies, these can be far more open and inclusive outside the EU neoliberalist regime than inside. Furthermore a clean Brexit will ensure Britain can not only still trade with the EU, but with the world. So stop with the rehashed Project Fear  memes. I'm not a UK voter neither are you Yanqui. It will be up to them to decide. If I were however, my trust in UK Labour after its latest dismal performance and developments would be highly doubtful. Leaving the EU is imperative. Political obedience to the people's democratically settled majority decision ditto.

"UK Labour needs to start listening to their voters rather than the elite city bubbles that constitute Remain. Most working towns have woken up and seen the light where Brexit is concerned. Our towns are suffering the consequences and such parties don't get it. The electorate talks."

"After 40 years of neoliberal assault on working class communities epitomised by New Labour, the only opportunity to win the working class to Labour could come from Corbyn with a radical manifesto, the project will be stillborn if Labour is seen as a party of the status quo."

Agreed that it's up to them, and that indeed I am a "Yanqui".  I was simply expressing the hope that this step would get the "People's Vote" crowd off Corbyn's case.

I haven't even read any of the Project Fear points and when I write, I write based solely on my own analysis.

Corbyn is in an impossible position on the EU-which is why the Blairites invented the "People's Vote" movement.   If he goes all-out Leave, the LibDems and the Greens will gain massively at Labour's expense.  If he goes all-out Remain, the North and Northeast of England will vote Brexit Party or Tory for the rest of history and there's nothing he can offer them that could possibly win them back.  Also, Labour can't get back into power without making significant gains in Scotland, and for some reason Scotland has been convinced that the EU accomodates socialist or at least social democratic values, and also that the EU can somehow ease the path to eventual Scottish independence.

Until this is put to rest, neither Corbyn or any other possible Labour leader can get out from under attack by half of the party.

And I could live with Brexit, myself, NDPP.  But, if it happens, how does Corbyn regain the support of the sector of his party who voted Remain?

It's hard to imagine anything the guy could do that would be the right thing in this scenario.

Who cares about the politicians, especially ones who fritter way their power by surrendering to rather than destroying their political enemies? Corbyn was weak and allowed his enemies to entrench themselves in the face of each unmet challenge  Those on this thread noted each and every stage and Corbyn's paralysis or surrender. From the Zios to the Blairites. I care about the British working class which gaven Corbyn and Labour a big vote of confidence and has done nothing for them but betray it. Blairites won.

To wax whimsical for a moment perhaps Mao gives reason for political optimism in such cases

"There is great disorder under heaven. The situation is excellent."
