Federal NDP candidates for 2019 federal election

Does this mean that M. Nantel thinks he will have a better chance of being re-elected as a Green than an NDP? If so, that is pretty terrible news for the NDP in Quebec.

Nantal had little chance of being elected in that riding given the NDP's current polling. I'm not sure how much better he would do as a Green. I understand that earlier this year there were reports he was considering the Bloc as well, although I guess those can't have been as serious since the NDP went ahead and nominated him.

Alexandre Boulerice said that he visited Pierre Nantel at his house to find out what was going on and that Nantel admitted he was in discussions with the Greens and it was almost a done deal.

So what is the working theory as to why Nantel would do this?  Does the man think he has a better chance of hanging on to his seat if he stands as a Green, or is he doing this to get back at the NPD for some perceived slight?

Looks like Syd Ryan, well know leftist activist and Former President of the OFL is running for the Oshawa NDP nomination. He ran in the 2007 Ontario election and was about 2500 votes from winning. I'm reading there may be 5 candidates running though, I can't find any lists.

May confirms ex-New Democrat Pierre Nantel is running as a Green candidate

It's official: former NDP MP Pierre Nantel is switching teams and running for the Greens in the federal election.

"Pierre Nantel is a climate leader, and he is one of the most passionate MPs I have encountered in the House of Commons," said May in a statement.

Here is another strong candidate with the kind of energy a real left wing party needs. Voters elect MP's for local reasons not just because of national polls.

The New Democratic Party (NDP) this evening announced Mumilaaq Qaqqaq as their pick for the Oct. 21 federal election.

Qaqqaq, of Baker Lake, is 25 – which happens to be the median age in the territory, according to the 2016 census.

Long dedicated to youth advocacy, Qaqqaq has been a youth leader with Northern Youth Abroad, and has worked for Nunavut Tunngavik Inc., the Government of Nunavut and Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami. She was widely recognized for her speech addressing suicide in the House of Commons in 2017.

Aaron Watson, with the Nunavut NDP electoral district association, noted that in the 2015 election the party received a record number of votes with Jack Anawak as the candidate. Anawak showed his support Thursday night by attending the event.

The NDP came second to the Liberals that year. Previously, Peter Ittinuar won under the NDP banner in the late ’70s and early ’80s.

I've been out through parts of the Winnipeg Centre constituency this weekend. It's only a small area, and early going, but so far the sign count for Leah Gazan is vastly larger than what is out there for Falcon-Ouelette. If this trend holds, it will be a mirror image of 2015, when a large number of sings for Falcon-Ouelette preceeded a shift in support from then-NDP MP Pat Martin to the Liberals.

Any words on what Fortin or Marchand are supposed to have done to deserve that?

I don't know if those 2 candidates necessarily did anything -- it may just be that they chose not to run or they could have been switched to other ridings.

The NDP now have 291 candidates nominated for the 338 ridings. They should have had nominated many more earlier in this election year but at least they have started moving on this. According to wikipedia, they have:

Apparently, the NDP now has more nominated candidates than the Liberals.  Where are the news stories about the lack of organization within the Liberal Party?  

And btw, probably the most diverse slate of candidates ever.  Impressive.

Failed Parkdale High Park NDP hopeful Saron Gebresellassi and a group of her supporters have now filed a human rights complaint against the NDP arising out of disputes from the nomination contest previously discussed above.

But 288 people who have joined a human rights complaint against the federal NDP say they were denied that right during the party’s nomination meeting in Parkdale-High Park back in June.

The complaint alleges that "party officials did not provide... any explanation as to why excluded Canadians were prohibited from voting."

The complaint further alleges that "this procedure amounted to a voting embargo imposed on one ethnic group. It is submitted that the exclusion from the voting list and the accompanying voting embargo imposed on one ethnic group sits in contravention to the legislative requirements under the Ontario Human Rights Code."

The Ontario NDP and the Parkdale-High Park riding association have also been named in the complaint.
