The article is an opinion piece. I don't believe that if she were a man Trudeau would have given up on getting SNC a deal. Maybe if she were a man he would have switched her out faster to get someone more compliant but didn't want to give up the optics of having a FN women in high position.

This article is just silly. The structural challenges around the dual role of Min.of Justice/AG are gender neutral. As are the political realities of various Cdn politicians deferring to Quebec, and its economic pet projects, for much of Confederation.
Speaking as a long-time feminist, the earnest attempts to apply feminist critique to this are overwrought and embarrassing. There is plenty of other stuff to call out.
The fact is that had JRW not been an Indigenous woman, she would have been booted from the portfolio long before this. Contrary to the hagiography that emerged after February, she was markedly ineffective as Justice Minister and (unlike Philpott for example) was rarely singled out for praise by her core constituencies (Crowns, defence bar, justice NGOs).
Trudeasu has been scoring a lot of points as the preferred person to lead the country. that's not going to hurt the Liberals, it will most likely see their approval rating shoot up. Liberals are far from death.
