So What’s A Progressive Voter To Do?

Abacus, a liberal-supporting pollster, has the following results for their latest poll:

C 34%

L 33%

N 17%

So it seems apparent that we will be getting a Liberal minority government supported by the NDP, seeing the NDP has made it quite clear they will not be supporting  a Conservative government.

He did not treat them differently than he would have treated men therefore it is not a feminist issue.

Concerning the title of the thread, "What's a progressive to do?" the answer is obvious. If the NDP has a chance in your riding vote NDP. If they don't. Vote Green. If they don't, vote Liberal. If they don't. cry. Or better yet, move.

Pondering wrote:

The men who make it to Cabinet have more political savvy and less ethics than the two women who were promoted to further the Liberal agenda of pretending to be progressive.

Any progressive voter in this election has one clear choice and that is the NDP. In some ridings the Greens might be a better choice. If for whatever reason one was to consider themselves a progressive and they for some reason could not vote for the NDP or Greens then vote for the Rhinos or the Marxists or an independent anything but a Liberal candidate. In no scenario is voting Liberal a progressive choice.

Thank you for that wonderful view. Canada's problems relate to the legacy of successive Liberal governments. The Liberals are not progressive they are and always have been hypocrites. Trudeau is the perfect Liberal PM since he can cry on demand and issue apologies for anything and everything while implying it really isn't his fault and besides don't you know there is a bogeyman under the bed.

NDPP

His latest pot-boiler of a speech (sans any mention of TMX of course), following in lockstep behind Greta Thunberg's at the UNGA - an event Mr Trudeau was regretfully too redface from blackface to attend - loudly proclaims his Liberals to be the climate change party par excellence and the only possible one to slay the anti-climate change Tories. Fearing just this, watch greens and dippers, knowing Canadians can't elect them to victory, now move Liberal.

Liberals Unveil Ambitious Climate Change Plan With Few Details (CBC subsequently changed title)

https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/liberals-climate-change-action-plan-205...

"It's an ambitious target, but it's doable,' said Trudeau at a campaign event in Burnaby, BC, the home riding of NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh. 'Do you want to be represented by a team that has a serious, ambitious plan that is committed to do more, or do you want a team of climate deniers with no long-term vision for Canada's environmental and economic future?' he said..."

Perhaps Trudeau and his basically do nothing to reduce greenhouse gases government would like to answer the question.

How can a 16-year-old girl in plaits, dedicated to trying to save the planet, inspire such incandescent rage?

Oh, oh, looks like the Trudeau Liberals have stepped on some more cow pies

Trudeau says officials reviewing case of pro-Assad honorary Syrian consul

Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau is promising "next steps" will be revealed soon in the case of a known supporter of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad who is now that country's honorary consul in Montreal.

"Obviously we are quite seized with this issue," said Trudeau while answering a question during a campaign stop in Burnaby, B.C.

"I have personally spoken with [Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland] this morning, who has assured me that she is looking very carefully into how this has happened and [will] ensure that we have next steps to share with you soon."

As first reported by Maclean's, Global Affairs approved Waseem Ramli for the posting last month. The Montreal businessman has held pro-Assad demonstrations in Montreal and drives a Hummer adorned with the Syrian flag and a photo of Assad.

Waseem Ramli, right, poses for a photo with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Ottawa says it is looking into Ramli's controversial appointment as Syria's honorary consul in Montreal. (Waseem Ramli/Facebook)

Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland said neither she nor her team were aware that officials had approved his nomination and she has asked the department to look into it right away.

As honorary consul, Ramli would be responsible for helping Syrian Canadians and, in some cases, Americans secure government documents.

Ramli told CBC Montreal's Daybreak that his job is to provide services to the Syrian people and his beliefs won't get in the way of that.

"For me, putting a picture of the president of my homeland, it's something I believe in," he said. "It's just [like] anybody putting someone else's president's picture on their house, on their car."

The government's guidelines for appointing honorary consuls state that "diplomatic missions should avoid controversial or politically active persons."

Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer called the appointment "outrageous."

Krop, I don't know your politics but the Conservatives are worse. Don't give me the ' I'd rather be shot in the face than shot in the back'  or the ' Liberal/Tory same old story'  horse shit.

You seem to be concerned with pipelines. I'm guessing you're a eco-socialist.  What do you presume is going to happen if the Cons win? Especially a majority? They don't believe in climate change, they are in bed with petro interests. Pipelines all over Canada. Alberta will turn into Flint, MI and pipelines in the Arctic . Think there is a bogey man under the bed? You bet.

I can't wait to read all the threads about how terrible the Conservative policies are. I'm going to laugh in people's faces. You asked for it, you got it.

But I have been here long enough to not be surprised if you all blame it on the Liberals anyway.

The Liberals nationalized a pipeline to bail out both Alberta and Notley. If I was in Trudeau' s ear I'd say stay out of it. Albertans wouldn't vote for you anyway. Fuck them.

Hate Trudeau? It seems to be in fasion these days. But I don't know about you but I vote on POLICY. Who cares who is representing them as long as they keep their promises. And the Liberals delivered on quite a few.

What do you expect from Scheer? Better question, what are you expecting from the Stephen Harper Conservatives that we didn't see already for 10 fucking years?

Don't complain when our water becomes as polluted as in the US.

Same thing happens with a Liberal majority.  They 'believe' in climate change. They just believe in spending billions of public funds on pipelines more. This is a fact.

Conservative or Liberal majority means we continue down the road to environmental collapse. We need a minority government with NDP (and Greens) forcing real change.

You're wrong my friend. They came from the bottom to a majority because they ran to the Left as the Mulcair NDP ran to the right. They made some progressive policies and they kept them. It seems everyone would be buzzing if those same policies were passed by the NDP.

Again all you're doing is presenting the same argument I just denounced. It gets tiring. The Cons are better because they are reactionary? Because they are openly bad? On what planet would a so=called progressive view the Cons as the SECOND worse? What do you expect from Scheer and the Stephen Harper Conservatives?  Answer ; NOTHING unless you're rich, white and drink petrol.

As to the argument that "Albertans" will never vote Liberal, the party got 24.6 percent of the vote in Alberta last election, and took four seats. Hardly a triumph, but in the event of a close election, those seats could prove pivotal.

Whether that alone accounts for Trudeau's pipeline policies, I don't know.

Well yes it was about votes. Liberal support and keeping the Notley government alive. Both hadn't a chance in hell, Albertans vote Consewrvative ALWAYS with the exception of Notley's NDP.

That ain't happening again.

But the purchase of the pipeline was to appease Alberta and indirectly BC. In short, the Liberals were fools to think that Albertans would vote LPC. They should have sat that out and let Alberta and BC go to war and figure it out themselves..

The Liberals are a lot of things but they know how to count.  The idea that this was a decision based on how it played electorally is absurd. The possible seats gained in Alberta were never going to be as many as the seats lost in BC and Quebec. The decision to buy the pipeline wasn't about winning seats in Alberta, hahaha. It was about the Liberal party's real constituents-the corporate sector.  They figured the damage electorally in BC wouldn't be enough to cost them power-polls were good, Trudeau's empty rhetoric and photo-bombing were playing well, Trump was the perfect foil etc. Trudeau could help his peeps out. I was surprised how brazen it was.

Appeasement doesn't work Alan. Kindger Morgan, SNC Lavalin and their ilk will always call the shots if the Liberals have a majority government. The 'Green New Deal' actually makes a real argument that doesn't pit regions and workers against each other.

Well at least you didn't follow up that the Conservatives are any better.

But the Greens and NDP have no chance of winning the election. It is and always will be a 2 way race every election.

I've been suggesting that the NDP/Greens and Liberals merge. It would be the best thing for our country and the only merger that makes sense.

The NDP and Greens can always hijack the Liberals from within just like Harper and his Reformers hijacked the PC Party.
