"Girls only" for retail job? Don't do it, girl!

Dear schoolgirl who might be tempted to apply for this job: Don't do it!
What year is it again? 1950? What kind of employer specifies gender and age in a RETAIL job ad? Don't fool yourself - this is no employment equity thing.
Bosses who specify young girls only for retail jobs are either a) hoping to hire someone who is too naive or ignorant to know her rights and too timid to stand up for them, or b) a pig who will either harass her himself, or let his customers and other employees harass her, or c) both a and b.
Trust me on this one: been there, done that. And even back in 1990, when I worked for a boss who hired only young women to do cash at a bakery, he wasn't stupid enough to actually specify gender in his job ad.
If dude is this brazen about it, trust me, it is going to SUCK working there. Don't do it!

When it came time to school I could not afford textbooks, or reading glasses for a while which made me effectively blind and I almost flunked out of science because I had no idea what was happening in class. I greatly resented the employment discrimination I faced. At the end of the day I got by from guinea pigging for algorithm pharma and working night shifts at one job giving 15 hours a week, sometimes followed by morning shifts at another such job.

I do believe that the same data shows that they more than make up for their early losses later on. So chin up, 500 Apples.
Unfortunately, they tend to be right.
The manager tells me that no males ever apply for the work. It's not considered manly!!
The students start at $10.00 an hour. Evidently this is benith what guys are willing to work for.

It's not that shit, it's an opportunity for young people to pay for books, glasses, food, et cetera without participating in clinical trials or losing 25 lbs. A lot of people I knew who did work retail got management experience later on and that's nice too. Between fast food, retail, movie theatres, cashiering, et cetera there's not that many student jobs left over.***
All that said sorry I didn't notice the forum. I addressed responses and I don't think there's much more to say at this point.

When you shadow-moderate this discussion forum, you do none of those things, and as a result, end up flying off the handle over things that the actual moderators might have let slide, or might have handled differently. If everyone on babble took it on themselves to moderate these forums based on their personal animosity towards other posters, this place would be nothing but people telling each other where they can and can't post, etc.
So I'm going to ask you, one more time, to please stop doing this. And that goes for any others who feel the urge to do so as well. remind isn't the only one who does it, but this is the instance that is in front of me at the moment.
Now. 500_Apples, as you know, you've been asked to stay out of the feminism forum in the past. That hasn't been lifted. You're going to have to start looking more carefully at the forums the posts appear in before responding. You will be looking at a suspension if you keep doing it.
And no, everyone else, that is not an invitation to start watching 500 like a hawk and hoping he slips up and posts here so you can jump all over him. The moderators have it under control. If we miss something, please e-mail us ONLY. Do not e-mail us AND attempt to take disciplinary action yourself in the thread.
