"New" and "Improved" Babble hates Macs...

...or is it just my Mac?
I can't format anything using my Mac. When I use my PC-based laptop from work, the formatting works okay. But, not with my Mac.
Are other Mac users having that same issue?
My Gnome desktop works perfectly. The worm must be in the Apple.
Sven, I can't format either. I have a MacBook. But I think I used to be able to at least bold and italicize words for the first few days, but now I can't. When I try to do it it doesn't show up on the preview screen or the actual post.
I've not ever been able to do the groovy link thing that non-Macs can do, so my links are all long and url-y.
Brian, the main tech guy, knows about this, btw. So it will get fixed at some point.

This is with Iceweasel on Debian Lenny using Openbox. Thie sight is improving but still a long way from good. The top of the page is still a mess. I can't use Opera on this site. The tools don't all work.
I haven't figured out whether the problem is the choice of software, or the merging of the old Babble files. It's probably the software because the Rabble side is terrible too. Trying to fix this with a wysiwyg program is pretty much a wasted effort. A tech has to get down and dirty and edit the code line by line, starting with the W3C validation errors. It takes work and cannot be short-circuited.
Again, can someone please explain the "urgent need" rabble had to get new software? I know it's “water under the bridge” and all that, but we had a perfectly usable system pre-“upgrade” and someone felt that it was worth spending a load of money and time to get something “new and improved”.
So, what, exactly, was the HUGE PROBLME that was solved by doing this “upgrade”???
I think the assessment of this upgrade can be captured with a simple equation:
Is (1) the value of the NEW FEATURES plus (2) the value of ELIMINATING THE PRE-EXISTING PROBLEMS less (3) the cost of the NEW SOFTWARE (time and money) less (4) the cost of the PROBLEMS OF THE NEW SOFTWARE greater than, equal to, or less than ZERO?
I think that equation renders a value SIGNIFICANTLY LESS THAN ZERO and, given that, the money and energy expended on a project that results in a net negative (I.M.Humble.O.) would have been far better spent (as I recommended long before the conversion took place) helping even a few of those in this world who suffer living on $2 a day (or less).

Rosa, I think it's a safari issue, since everyone who uses Firefox (Mac or otherwise) is fine. I've tried to download Firefox and so far my macbook is rejecting it. So we will remain unformatted and silly-long-url-y in the interim.
Sven, is this going to be another of your " the new babble sucks!" threads? Because you can find another gajillion threads on that topic if you so desire.
And, Michelle and oldgoat explained several dozen times about the problems with the old babble, for over a year, since the relaunch has been in the works.
I'm on an iBook G4 using Mac OSX v. 10.4.11, safari v. 3.2.1, and the new babble doesn't work very well. I have to do long links; even if I type in [URL=http:// (etc), it won't work. And I can't insert images, though it goes through all the motions as if it will.
Mostly, for me, though, it's not a huge deal.

Not true. I'm using Iceweasel, which is Firefox for Debian, and there are lots of problems.
I'm not sure that babble hates Mac's per se, but it isn't terribly fond of Safari. It does seem to grudgingly tolerate Firefox, so you might consider giving Firefox for Mac a spin, and see how it goes.

That (using Firefox and not using Safari) is exactly what I've been doing for the last month or so. Firefox does give slightly better performance with the new software here.
