What are your plans for Saturday, March 28th, 2009: Earth Hour
March 18, 2009 - 11:37pm
Guide to galaxy for Earth Hour's starry, starry night
I plan on becoming one with the earth actually. I'll be up to my knees in rubber boots, red clay, and some wheelbarrow. Basement fixers left me a mess from late last autumn to deal with.
Heh, same here Caissa...I wonder if they'll align the start of Earth hour with the start of the national anthems again?
I'v got this nagging feeling that I left my bedroom light on before leaving for work today...pretty much negates any good I'd do from turning off my lights for an hour, assuming Earth hour occurs when my lights normally would be on of course.
New thread title suggestions:
Earth hour: Make yourself feel good while doing shit all!
Earth Hour: Corporations greenwash, now you can too!
Earth Hour: Turning the insignificant into a social movement!
True, but only by an insignificant amount.
If we're talking cynicism:
That could be optimism too...that people would only leave the engine idling for just the one hour per year.
I forgot about it until just now. Whoops. Oh well, it's just a feel good propaganda exercise sponsored by Killer Coke anyhow, to make people think they're actually doing something real for the environment when they're not.
On the other hand, maybe some people who are actively trying to curb their consumption every day might like having a special time to celebrate and recognize those efforts once a year - kind of like those of us who love people every day but like to celebrate it once a year on Valentine's Day. So I hope those who feel that way enjoyed their Earth Hour. :)
Hey, thats a good idea Boom Boom. Next Earth Hour, I'll be selling off Earth Hour credits. For a nominal fee of $5, I'll turn off one of my house lights for an hour sometime during the year in your name. For just $20, I'll buy an old lamp, plug that in and turn it off for an hour. Now thats saving Earth!
We had a very pleasant evening, Mrs. OG, the kids and dogs and I, sitting in the living room and chatting by candle light.
At one point my son and I walked up the street making judgemental remarks about our non-observant neighbours.
I still have 47 Earth Hour credits left, will accept best offer.
