SUMMARY:If I Were a Monument with Louise Liliiefeldt (Mayworks Festival)
DESCRIPTION:

If I Were a Monument is an exhibition by renowned artist Louise Liliiefeldt.&nbsp\;The exhibition consists of paintings and installations that deal with the&nbsp\;issue of loneliness. The images Liliefeldt creates are born from a very&nbsp\;personal place\, as dementia and caregiving have been part of her immediate&nbsp\;family\, perhaps exaggerating the solitude of both the person who has
dementia and the caregiver. The images surrounding the walls of the gallery&nbsp\;represent images of what loneliness would feel like if she were a monument&nbsp\;erected to honor the lives of others.

SUMMARY:Book Launch\: A Healthy Society\: How a Focus on Health Can Revive Canadian Democracy
DESCRIPTION:

Drawing on his experiences as a family physician in the inner city of Saskatoon\, in Mozambique\, and in rural Saskatchewan\, Dr. Meili argues that health delivery too often focuses on treatment of immediate causes and ignores more fundamental conditions that lead to poor health. Income\, education\, employment\, housing\, the wider environment\, and social supports\: far more than the actions of physicians\, nurses\, and other health care providers\, it is these conditions that make the greatest difference in our health. Brought to life by patient stories\, A Healthy Society explores a number of specific health determinants\, and ends in a discussion of democratic reforms that could help reshape the way we organize ourselves to create a truly healthy society.

SUMMARY:Vancouver International Writer's Festival\: Richard Ford
DESCRIPTION:

Richard Ford's latest novel\, Canada\, tells the unforgettable story of Dell Parsons\, a young man spirited across the Montana border into Saskatchewan. Here he is taken in by Arthur Remlinger\, an enigmatic man whose own past exists on the other side of the border. Dell struggles to understand what his future can be even as he comes to understand the violence simmering below the surface in his new life. Haunting and spectacular in vision\, Canada is a novel rich with emotional clarity and lyrical precision\, and an acute sense of the grandeur of living.
