Corporations Owe Billions in Unpaid Back Taxes, Ignored or Waived by Governments?

Interesting article, especially considering the massive cuts to corporate taxes, cuts and attempts to slash public spending and services.  If this much is owed by a few companies, imagine what the total must amount to especially all the undisclosed cases of this.

Might amount to enough to pay off the debt racked up from the financial collapse and billions of subsidies given to big corporations, not to mention it invalidates the need for tax cuts since they are paying far below what is required anyways.

Does West Van really have high child poverty?

A West Van MLA is investigating a supposed high-rate of low income families with children in the wealthiest suburb of Canada. Why would genuinely poor families live in a community where the police will pull you over for driving a beater? Come on, we know what's really going on here. Once again, rich people are dodging taxes. Call in the CRA, Sultan.

Growth - UofO debate

this is (to me), as Peter Victor mentions at one point 'the nut'

Be it resolved that building an environmentally sustainable society will require an end to economic growth. this 'debate' or maybe better, 'cogent discussion,' took place January 20 at the University of Ottawa: http://www.sustainableprosperity.ca/debate

a webcast is now available: http://137.122.181.150/mediasite/SilverlightPlayer/Default.aspx?peid=5c9...

if you watch the webcast you may want to skip to 25 minutes in to avoid being turned off by the usual CBC incompetence, and you will have to download Microsoft Silverlight as well ( http://www.silverlight.net/getstarted/ )

Boeing lays off 1000 workers

http://blacklistednews.com/One-Day-After-Securing-A-Huge-Deal-With-China...

Boeing just laid off 1000 workers in Southern California, according to the Orange County Register.

The move comes just a day after Boeing agreed to a $19 billion deal with China to produce 200 airplanes for the country.

The layoffs affect workers in the company's Long Beach, Anaheim, and Huntington Beach facilities. The bulk of the layoffs will occur in Long Beach, where 900 will lose their jobs.

The company has been consistently cutting jobs in Long Beach. It had 20,000 employees there in 1990 and now only has 7,000, according to the Long Beach Press Telegram.

Capitalism: Fix it or Lose it

As more and more of the so called experts begin to say what I’ve been saying for the past 2 years, “The Recession is NOT over, it is merely taking a rest while it builds itself for an even worse comeback” it is clearly evident that we need to rethink the nature of Capitalism itself.

Capitalism as we know it can not and will not survive. Tinkering with various aspects of the system such as bail outs for some companies while others are allowed to perish is no solution. Juggling the money supply only creates conflict as each country strives to gain the upper hand. Reducing interest rates to encourage consumers to buy, buy, buy, has failed to achieve the desired results.
