OFL Convention

Quote:
Fiery public union leader Sid Ryan has won a second-two year term as president of the Ontario Federation of Labour with a mandate to end internal strife and increase worker militancy on Tuesday.

More than 1,400 delegates at the federation's biennial convention acclaimed Ryan and supported his "unity team" that captured the other two top posts in the umbrella labour group that represents 54 unions and more than one million workers in the province.

Delegates also acclaimed Nancy Hutchison of the United Steelworkers for the secretary-treasurer's job and voted overwhelmingly for Irwin Nanda of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers as executive vice-president.

Why To Occupy? In Favour of the 99%

http://whytooccupy.org/

We designed this site as a go-to for anyone who might care to sample
the many good reasons, valid issues, and eloquent explanations that
are being offered to support the growing OCCUPY movement.

The support comes from a myriad of mortals--economists, actors,
writers, musicians, veterans, scientists, gurus, pundits,
personalities--the list goes on. And will grow. Heck, even the US
Chairman of the Federal Reserve has chimed in with encouragement. Go
figure.

So if anyone tells you this movement is just a bunch of scruffy kids
passing the time--send them here.

Harper Changing Labour Code: economy an essential service

Is anyone else not extremely concerned? Harper and Raitt are looking at changes to the Labour Code to include the economy as an essential service - leading to a huge loss of rights and pretty much any union could be ordered back to work on the arbitrary argument that the economy is at risk.

Currently an essential service is defined as an immediate risk to health and safety. The proposed changes to the definition opens the doors wide to withholding rights from workers. The public is bound to agree with this move as many are fearful about the unstable economy.

Questions need to be asked not just about the principles of reducing labour rights - but how a risk to the economy is to be measured and also how such changes applies to CEO's and upper management.

Who's jobs are on strike for the college support staff in Ontario?

I applied for a job at a college in town to be a part time janitor, seriously forgetting that the colleges support staff were on strike. Now that I've suddenly gotten an interview (conspicuosly, on a Sunday after five) the realization has come to me. I called a contact number on the OPSEU page, late tonight to see if this was a scab possition, and he told me to call him Monday morning for the answer. I don't know shit about shit, when it comes to who's on strike (namely whether the Janitorial job is a scab job) and I was hoping you well informed babblers could fill me in. I'm getting nowhere with my google search in finding out. and I need to know before the interview.

Hello from The Redneck Party USA

Hello Folks!

We have created a Grassroots Movement called Redneck Party. We take our name from the "Redneck War" of 1921. Google it! My people marched with red bandannas tied around their necks so they wouldn't shoot each other. Seriously though, amidst being called commies they were some of the most courageous and valiant Patriots of their day.
