I came to this website specifically due to this quote:

"The first time I met Malala, a couple of years ago, I asked
her what her name signified. She answered: 'Probably, a hero like the Afghan heroine Malalai [of Maiwand] or Malalai Joya. I want to be a social activist and an honest politician like her,' she said, smiling. Ms. Joya, a 30-something activist, politician, and writer who was bitterly critical of both the Taliban and the Karzai regime, was at one point dubbed the bravest woman of Afghanistan."

I do want to learn more about this quote, as well as each of these
women & girls.

I also know this quote:

What if the black bloc have the right idea?

The more I see the failure of the left to change our society and the more I see the destruction caused by conservatives the more I really start to wonder when (and if) the left will ever take control.

At what point do we force our hand?

This is a serious post, despite lots of talk from the left, we arent effecting much change, sure we have official opposition but harper went from a minority to a majority.

Do we have to wait till feudalism sets in completely before we do something? Its doubtful we would have the brains or nerve to stand up even then.

Im not a member of the black bloc but increasingly my thinking is becoming more radical then theirs.

Paul Ryan is bad for women

Paul Ryan's radical plans for U.S. women

Ryan is considered by many a champion of small government. For women, though, the federal government that Paul Ryan envisions is big, intrusive and controlling. Paul Ryan would ban all abortions, with no exceptions, even in cases of rape, incest or the health of the mother. In other words, the mother could die as a result of complications from the pregnancy.

Jon Stewart and the U.S. media, part 2

Steve Almond: The Joke’s on You

Over the past decade, political humor has proliferated not as a daring form of social commentary, but a reliable profit source. Our high-tech jesters serve as smirking adjuncts to the dysfunctional institutions of modern media and politics, from which all their routines derive. Their net effect is almost entirely therapeutic: they congratulate viewers for their fine habits of thought and feeling while remaining careful never to question the corrupt precepts of the status quo too vigorously.

Netroots Nation starts today

Netroots Nation is a convention in the USA for online Democratic and democratic politcal activists.  It's been going on for a few years and started as YearlyKos, a convention for

It looks like they are doing live online broadcasts of all their sessions.  I'm not sure if it's just today, or all days.  It looks like there is a lot of interesting content.

All times given are in Eastern, as it takes place in Rhode Island.  So I guess the day is pretty much over, but maybe this will tempt people into tuning in for whatever they have tomorrow.

NY Republicans want to use public funds to fund busing for after-hours religious programs

ALBANY - Taxpayers would be forced to pay for busing kids from yeshivas that have after-hours academic programs under a plan quietly floated by Senate Republicans.

The state and city already split the cost of busing kids to private schools during the regular school day.

But over the objections of Mayor Bloomberg, the Senate GOP wants to go further by requiring bus service for schools that offer classes until at least 5 p.m.

According to Bloomberg aides, 25 yeshivas and three charter schools would qualify at a cost of $3 million to the city and state under the GOP plan.

US Voters Increasingly Alienated by Two Major Parties

Story: US Voters Increasingly Alienated by Two Major Parties: Atlanta Progressive News

All is not well in America, it seems. More U.S. voters who identify as independent than as Democrats or Republicans, despite the fact that the two major parties maintain their virtual stranglehold on U.S. politics and, so far, on the 2012 presidential election process.

America has been through five different Party Systems, each time consisting of two major parties:

1. Federalist Party vs. Democratic-Republican Party

2. Democrats vs. Whigs

Examples of Laws That Benefit the Rich at the Expense of the Poor in the United States

Hello. I am new to socialism, and I would really like to know more aout it. On another forum, I tried to hold the position that there are laws that benefit the rich at the expense of the poor in the United States. It seems that my level of education is not up to the task, and I'm getting routed. I was wondering where I can go to learn about laws that benefit the rich at the expense of the poor and also would like to hear examples of such laws. Sorry if my question seems sophomoric to you all. I really would like to improve.
