New ethnic bigots for Peter King .... violate hate laws

OK I put in the violation of hate laws part, but isnt this statement a criminal offense???

But the furor over Park 51 and more recent controversy over Congressman Peter King's hearings on Muslim radicalization have provided a mainstream platform for Hindu-American activists, while simultaneously diversifying the ranks of anti-Islamic protesters.

"We're requesting all Muslims: If you don't help us, we have no other option," said Sahani on Sunday, speaking at a demonstration about what he considers inadequate Muslim-American cooperation with law enforcement agencies. "We have to stop immigration of all Muslims - that should be our ultimate solution. God bless America!"

Boeing lays off 1000 workers

Boeing just laid off 1000 workers in Southern California, according to the Orange County Register.

The move comes just a day after Boeing agreed to a $19 billion deal with China to produce 200 airplanes for the country.

The layoffs affect workers in the company's Long Beach, Anaheim, and Huntington Beach facilities. The bulk of the layoffs will occur in Long Beach, where 900 will lose their jobs.

The company has been consistently cutting jobs in Long Beach. It had 20,000 employees there in 1990 and now only has 7,000, according to the Long Beach Press Telegram.

The O in Opinion

Oprah Winfrey's new cable television channel will make its debut at noon ET on Saturday in 85 million homes across the U.S.

Running the Oprah Winfrey Network — OWN — is a challenge the 56-year-old media powerhouse relishes as her syndicated talk show nears its finale on Sept. 9, 2011, after an influential 25-year-run.

But other challenges she'll take on will not include pursuing a career in politics.

I try to be interested in everything. (If you don't take an interest, it may come back to bite you in the ass!)

I'm currently wondering if Feminism, Unions, & the Left in general can survive the towering current of ignorance flowing through all aspects of our lives these days.

The near total lack of interesting thoughtful media really distresses me. The pandering of news media to the lowest common denominator & the change to 'Opinion Journalism' in the U.S. is frightening!

O.K.... In my day to day life, I spend a lot of time with my adult daughter, & my Mom. My hubby passed away 6 years ago this month. My Mom is handicapped & 96 years old.

Deal to extend Afghan mission without vote 3

I just spoke to someone in Pat Martin's office. There is no truth at all that Layton and the NDP's postion has changed in any way. The NDP is calling for the immediate and permanent removal of all Canadian combat forces from Afghanistan, full stop.

wikileaks - too good to be true?

Am I the only one wondering if there isn't something a bit fishy with this Wikileaks stuff? There is nothing, at least so far, really damaging to anyone, in the sense that it might spark a mass uprising and popular revolt against the US Hegemony - but there do seem to be a few things that are actually possibly going to help them, at least in terms of pushing "public opinion" in a direction they want it pushed - i.e. the Arab countries (apparently) against Iran???? my my, that certainly hinders the US attempt to vilify the country prior to some kind of attack.... and CSIS and others think Canadians are living in wonderland and need to get serious about 'terrorism' ??? Again - this is detrimental to US interests in what way?

What happens when Austerity hits the Homeland?

The White House's fiscal commission's co-chairs, Erskine Bowles and former-Sen. Alan Simpson today released their draft recommendations on how to reduce the country's budget deficit. ...

Their recommendations are more or less a list of the third-rail issues of American politics, including cuts in the number of federal workers; increasing the costs of participating in veterans and military health care systems; increasing the age of Social Security eligibility; and major cuts in defense and foreign policy spending.

Free Market Utopia: Tea Partiers had better be careful what they wish for....

Through the financial backing of the richest and most powerful elites in America, the Tea Party has many Americans rallying for some kind of free-market utopia.

But this week people in the US are experiencing a real life example of what society would be like if neo-liberal, free market ideology were to run amok even more then it does now.

This week in Tennessee a fire department allowed a house to burn down because the owner failed to pay their annual $75 fire protection fee. This is a great example of how right wing ideology blinded an entire community to the downside of neo-liberal capitalism. Two dogs and a cat died in this fire. And the community was lucky that people didn't also die!

Advocacy group plans to file health and safety complaint against Flynt Publications (California)

An advocacy group that has been campaigning for more government protections for porn performers plans to file a complaint Thursday against mega-producer Larry Flynt Publications, publisher of Hustler.

AIDS Healthcare Foundation, a Los Angeles-based group that has advocated for condom use and increased testing among porn performers, plans to file a worker safety complaint with the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health.

The group takes issue with film shoots that depict sexual acts without condom usage, which the group said is unsafe and potentially life-threatening.

The group plans to submit 100 adult entertainment DVDs along with their complaint to the state agency.
