The Liberty Awards Gala will be held to honour exceptional contributions to the fields of human rights and civil liberties in Canada.
Celebrating excellence in legal advocacy, journalism, the arts and youth activism, the Liberty Awards bring together some of Canada’s preeminent social justice champions.
Our keynote speaker, Dr. Cindy Blackstock, is a Canadian-born Gitxsan activist for child welfare and Executive Director of the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society of Canada. For more than 20 years she has fought tirelessly to improve education on reserves by promoting equitable and culturally based interventions. The target of shocking government scrutiny and spying, Dr. Blackstock has been an outspoken critic of privacy rights violations.
As the premier fundraising event of our calendar, the event will be an elegant evening featuring a full sit down meal, silent auction, awards ceremony, and plenty of entertainment.
A limited amount of early bird tickets are available until May 14 for $130.
Villa Amato/88 East 1st Avenue, Vancouver, BC
Doors open at 6:30pm/Dinner at 7pm
Thank you for reading this story...
More people are reading rabble.ca than ever and unlike many news organizations, we have never put up a paywall – at rabble we’ve always believed in making our reporting and analysis free to all. But media isn’t free to produce. rabble’s total budget is likely less than what big corporate media spend on photocopying (we kid you not!) and we do not have any major foundation, sponsor or angel investor. Our only supporters are people and organizations -- like you. This is why we need your help.
If everyone who visits rabble and likes it chipped in a couple of dollars per month, our future would be much more secure and we could do much more: like the things our readers tell us they want to see more of: more staff reporters and more work to complete the upgrade of our website.
We’re asking if you could make a donation, right now, to set rabble on solid footing in 2017.
