Cynthia Palmaria, co-founder of GABRIELA Ontario, provides us with a comprehensive overview of the goings on in the time leading up to the May 10, 2010 Philippine general elections. She speaks about several of the controversies during election time this time around, updates us with recent news from international election observers of the People's International Observer's Mission (many of which are Canadian), and criticizes the Gloria-Macapagal Arroyo government of occupation for heightened state repression, political killings, and other injustices during election time. Special focus is made on two progressive partylist groups running who are amongst the several partylists that have candidates that are actually not for the rich and are dedicated to combating the grinding poverty in the Philippines: GABRIELA Women's Party and Bayan Muna.
GABRIELA Ontario is a grassroots Filipina-driven feminist and anti-imperialist migrant justice organization based in Toronto.
