The 2016 presidential election left a mark on the political scene in the United States of America. The Republican candidate, Donald Trump, ran a campaign based on an "America First" policy that sought to steer global dominance back towards the right. While the Republican victory was rooted in a rejection of economic policies that have put many Americans in a difficult place, it also based exaggerated fears on enemies both imagined and real. It was on this campaign that Donald Trump sought to upend the system, taking unfair economic policies with it. The strings attached to this campaign however are threaded with racism, misogyny , and discrimination.
At the 2017 Progress Summit in Ottawa, Ontario, the President and CEO of the Roosevelt Institute, Felicia Wong, discussed the best way forward for progressives in America. Her speech dicussed the best way forward for American progressives and how an agenda that rewrites the economic rules can strengthen their cause.
