An interview with Khaled Mouammar, of the Canadian Arab Federation (CAF) on the recent decision of the Conservative government of Canada to re-institute limited funding toward the Palestinian Authority (PA).

On Monday, July 23rd, Canada’s Forgein Minister Peter MacKay announced that the Canadian government would pledge a limited $8 million to the fragile P.A. The political reverse in Canadian funding arrives 18 months after Canada became the 1st western government to cut all financial and diplomatic ties with the P.A., launching a western boycott days after the Palestinian political movement Hamas won a Parliamentary majority in legislative elections in January 2006.

Canada has re-instituted limited aid funding to the Palestinian Authority, in political showing of support for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, shortly after Abbas expelled all democratically elected Hamas members of the Palestinian government, admits ongoing power struggles throughout the Palestinian territories.

In this feature interview for Radio Tadamon! Khaled Mouammar provides perspective on the recent reversal of Canadian foreign policy toward the Palestinian Authority and Canada’s post-Israel foreign policy throughout the Middle East region.
