UN committee highly critical of Canada's treatment of women

| April 7, 2009

Show Notes:

A key United Nations human rights monitoring body has issued a report highly critical of Canada’s record on women’s human rights. The UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women reviewed Canada’s compliance with the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.

The Committee asked the Canadian government to report back in one year on what it has done to address inadequate social assistance rates across the country and the failure of law enforcement agencies to deal with the disappearance and murder of Aboriginal women and girls. We speak with Lee Lakeman of the B.C. CEDAW group.
