Federal cabinet turns down mining proposal for Fish Lake

The federal government followed the recommendations of an independent review panel that said the Prosperity Copper Mine would have significant impacts on the environment around Fish Lake. The mine had been approved by the B.C. government despite the opposition of local First Nations and an outstanding court case claiming title to the land that surrounds the lake. Marilyn Baptiste is chief of the Xeni Gwet'in First Nation.
