The idea that wealthy people should pay a much higher percentage of their income in tax sounds pretty radical these days. But a new report says it’s an important way to make taxes more fair. Iglika Ivanova is one of the authors of the report Fairness by Design. She details some of the other ways to reform the tax system to benefit Canadians as a whole. Ivanova is an economist and public interest researcher at the B.C. office of the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives. She speaks with Redeye host Lorraine Chisholm.
Redeye is a three-hour live radio show produced by a collective based in Vancouver, B.C. If you live in the Vancouver area and are interested in alternative media, we’d love to hear from you. You don't need to know anything about radio production - we provide lots of training and support. To find out more about the people behind this podcast, check out our website. More people are reading rabble.ca than ever and unlike many news organizations, we have never put up a paywall – at rabble we’ve always believed in making our reporting and analysis free to all. But media isn’t free to produce. rabble’s total budget is likely less than what big corporate media spend on photocopying (we kid you not!) and we do not have any major foundation, sponsor or angel investor. Our only supporters are people and organizations -- like you. This is why we need your help.
If everyone who visits rabble and likes it chipped in a couple of dollars per month, our future would be much more secure and we could do much more: like the things our readers tell us they want to see more of: more staff reporters and more work to complete the upgrade of our website.
We’re asking if you could make a donation, right now, to set rabble on solid footing in 2017.
