Canada's new security certificate legislation

Last year the Supreme Court of Canada declared the security certificate law unconstitutional because it denied non-citizens the fundamental right of due process.

The government was given until February 23 this year to write a new law. In the last two and a half months, the Harper government has rushed Bill C-3 through Parliament. The new law includes a provision for a special advocate for the detainees.

Diane Ralph has been closely involved in advocating for the rights of Hassan Almrei, one of the men detained under the old security certificate law. She explains the problems with the new law. >> get more info
