The B.C. Civil Liberties Association has initiated a formal complaint in 4 recent cases of death in police custody. On September 24, they held a public forum in Vancouver on deaths in police custody.

The forum brought together family members and their lawyers, the former head of the Special Investigations Unit of Ontario André Marin and Shirley Heafey, former Commissioner for Public Complaints against the RCMP.

Shirley Heafey speaks with us about the complaints process and what needs to be changed to restore public confidence in the system.
