Rahat Kurd is a feminist and a Muslim, born and raised in Canada. She is disturbed and saddened both by the publication of the cartoons and by the lack of understanding in the West of what they symbolize to Muslims. She reflects on what led to them being published, why they have aroused such passions and how the media has dealt with the resulting furor.
