K.I. band members prisoners of conscience

| April 11, 2008

Show Notes:

The Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation is a remote fly-in community of about 1,200 people, located 580 kilometres north of Thunder Bay.

On March 17, six people - Chief Donny Morris, four councilors and a band employee - were sentenced to six months in jail for contempt of court.

The six KI band members had been resisting mineral exploration in their traditional territory at Big Trout Lake in Ontario.

We spoke with Rachel Ariss from the Department of Sociology at Lakehead University about the situation of the KI leaders. >> get more info
