Born in 1918 in Montreal, Parent played a key role in the textile strikes in Quebec and in establishing Canadian unions. She has been a champion of women's rights, active in campaigns for pay equity, for the right to abortion and for the rights of immigrant and Native women. Lisa Moore spoke with Madeleine Parent in September shortly after the publication of a new collection of essays about her life, edited by historian Andree Levesque.
