Pipeline through Afghanistan

| July 4, 2008

Show Notes:

Afghanistan and three of its neighbouring countries have agreed to build a 7.6 billion dollar pipeline to deliver natural gas from Turkmenistan to Pakistan and India. This project will run straight through Kandahar province, where Canadian soldiers are stationed.

The construction of this pipeline raises questions about what role the Canadian military may play in defending the project. Yet the pipeline is not mentioned in discussions of Canada’s involvement in Afghanistan.

John Foster wants to open debate on the pipeline and its significance for Canada. He's the author of the report “A Pipeline Through a Troubled Land”.
