Mexico has an energy security policy and so does the United States. In fact, Canada is the only member of NAFTA that doesn't. This means we risk running short of energy for our own use while still having to fulfill our obligations to the U.S. under the Free Trade agreement. Gordon Laxer of the Parkland Institute says this short-sightedness will cost us dearly and that we need to develop an energy security policy of our own.

Financial security for seniors is not a hot-button issue in the upcoming election, but it should be, according to Bernice Gehring. Pension reform is essential to ensure that large numbers of older people, and especially older women don't find themselves living below the poverty line. Bernice Gehring is a former Maple Ridge city councillor and member of WE*ACT, Women Elders in Action.
