(00:17 - 15:24) Studies have been done on the effects of feeding GM foods to animals and the results are alarming. Pat Howard is a professor in the Communications Department at SFU. She teaches courses in risk communication and has surveyed the current medical literature to assess what is known, and not known, about the risks of eating GM foods.
(15:25 - 28:36) Last spring, Vancouver residents, local businesses and community groups came together to keep Walmart out of the city. With a new city council elected last weekend, Walmart's application is likely to be reconsidered. One of the reasons not to have the megastore in your town is how it treats the people who work there. Liza Featherstone is New York-based journalist who has written extensively on Walmart. In this interview, she talks about how Walmart keeps disabled workers and union activists out of its stores.
