Show Notes:
The Fundamental Skills Assessment tests - or FSAs - were introduced by the NDP in 2000. They have since morphed into a school rating tool at the hands of Franser Institute researcher Peter Cowley.
SFU Dean of Education Paul Shaker says the Fraser Institute approach would never stand up under serious peer review, yet elementary school students and teachers spend valuable time preparing for the FSA tests.
This year the Vancouver Elementary School Teachers' Association launched a campaign to encourage parents to withdraw their children from the FSAs. We speak with Glen Hansman, president of VESTA.
