But I don't DARE call him a PIG! Otherwise I'll get banned. WTF?! Are you so very HAPPY, alex, Kim?
A former RCMP officer is facing prison time after admitting he tried to sexually assault a teenaged girl while on duty at a Manitoba reserve.
Benjamin Neufeldt, 26, pleaded guilty Tuesday to forcible confinement and invitation to sexual touching stemming from the August 2008 incident at Bloodvein First Nation, about 200 kilometres north of Winnipeg.
Neufeldt resigned following his arrest and has been free on bail living in British Columbia. He is expected to be sentenced later this year. Special prosecutor Robert Tapper said he will be seeking a six-year penalty, while defence lawyer Todd Bourcier is requesting a 30-month term behind bars.
Queen's Bench Justice Kenneth Hanssen has ordered a pre-sentence report which will examine Neufeldt's background.
Lawyers presented an agreed statement of facts Tuesday in which Neufeldt admits meeting the 17-year-old victim after her mother called police asking for help in removing her from a party in the community.
Neufeldt got the teen out of the house, then admits bringing her to his own residence where he tried sexually assaulting her while refusing to let her leave. She eventually managed to flee and reported the incident to authorities, who began a lengthy investigation.
Neufeldt, who was a constable with two years experience at the time, was immediately re-assigned to administrative duty. Charges weren't laid until December 2008 following consultation with Manitoba justice officials.
The Bloodvein RCMP detachment was first established in 2007. Previously, members of Selkirk's rural detachment would routinely fly into the community to provide policing.

i think you could still call him a pig, irrespective of if he was a cop. His actions are despicable and demonstrate the worst of what humans can be.
obviously he is a dangerous sexual predator, it's pathetic that because he's a cop he gets admin duty and is free on bail.
This is disgusting. It is worse because this man is in a position of authority with WEAPONS! The fact that he is a cop makes it far far worse. This is not just "anybody". This is an agent of the state, paid to "protect" us.
Should police officers who exploit their badge to commit crimes be punished more severely than regular citizens when convicted?
It's always struck me that with the privelege of being armed should come a greater responsibility, so I'm inclined to say "hell yes".
The privilege is being the agent of the state, as opposed to being armed. And when are they really ever convicted?
Perhaps we should start with just insisting they be held to the same level and then go from there?
This guy was, evidently. And the Crown seems to be asking for a sentence similar to what you might expect for any other rapist.
Is 6 years the "standard sentence" for armed kidnapping and attempted rape? Would some black guy doing the same thing to a white 17 year old girl only be looking at 6 years?
I have a real problem with him being released at all. What's to stop him doing it again, just not in Winnipeg?
This stinks.
I'm not sure that the government even keeps stats like that. And to be clear, I'm not saying 6 years is "OK", just that it's not way off of what I see other rapists get. Me, I think that as a police officer he should get more, but that's just my opinion.
Sorry Snert, never ment to imply you were ok with 6 years ... I was just asking a general question as it seems to me a situation where the perp wasn't a white cop, and the victim a minority female the crown would be asking for a longer sentence and bail would probably not be granted, or the conditions would at least be much more restrictive (but I may well have the wrong impression.)
I agree with Snert. Not just for the crime of rape/sexual assault, but for any crime in which force/violence is involved. Whether on- or off-duty at the time.
From what I understand, though, this is SOP. Some kind of lateral transfer or transfer to a different department until the media dies down.
And no "on leave with pay" bullshit either.
Hey,he got what he deserved---a demotion...This officer should not be compared with any reference to any porcine...That wouldn't be fair to pork.
You would get no such argument from me Maysie, the fucker confessed and plead guilty. He should also face breach of trust charges and pay back any pay he made while doing shit like this.
they should also take the fact he was armed with a gun and probably a taser into account like they do for armed robbery, as well as being in a position of power
If history is doomed to repeating itsself, nothing is going to happen to this 'officer' besides a demotion,a transfer,a paid vacation or an early retirement with full benefits.
Hence,he is likely to get rewarded.
I have to say that I WANT to respect the police...I want to appreciate them as heroic or a good role model.
That can never happen until probition laws are repealed (that includes prostitution which the CPA strongly opposes probably because beat cops will lose all the free favours they get everyday),law 'enforcement' must go,it gives these individuals too much power, makes them unaccountable and makes them above the law and the bad apples must be weeded out and be subject to the very laws and system they are enforcing.
If the police force were to implement these changes, they might actually EARN respect.
But it ain't gonna happen...Especially now with Harpercon Inc. working on giving the police MORE unconstitutional powers and creating the neo-con wet dream police state they so desire.
alan, I agree with what you've said. What we as a society criminalize shows a lot about what we value, or don't value. How cops benefit individually by the power they have is a part of that system.
But this:
is a hell of a cold way to describe rape. Please refrain.

I'm sorry and I apologize...I wasn't trying to offend or downplay anything...But it is the truth...Street hookers are some of the most exploited and abused members of our society and the fact that there are corrupt cops who take advantage of them can't be ignored.
But I'll be a little more discreet in the future.
