I am looking to find a speaker for my Amnesty Group here in Montreal's west island, it would be for about 6 people in someone's home- we are not a large group. We are looking to campaign around the issue of prostitution and trafficking in relation to VANOC. Do Olympics really create an increase in prositution and human trafficking for the purpose of prostitution ? My group has long standing contacts in a Temple comitee here that works around issues of trafficking for prostitution-so we need to see more around the issues from a pro- and against this theory idea, as well as maybe pro-sex work and anti-prostitution ideas. Any recommendations ?

Aurélie Lebrun, PhD is someone who has just published just last week the results of research she has been doing these last few years for CATHII, the Comité d'action contre la traite interne et internationale. I find her book "Être un homme, exercer son pouvoir - Discours et pratiques de prostitueurs à Montréal" fascinating, full of insights drawn from the thinkers of both camps in the controversy around prostitution. If you are ready to go beyond your initial focus, for instance to include domestic trafficking and the actual dynamics which johns freely share in interviews, I think you will find her a great resource person, someone for whom you may want to assemble a larger audience, via Temple and other contacts.
If you are interested, PM me and I'll let her know of your interest.
