Why is it that political parties on the left don't learn anything from the political parties on the right. When the right gets into power its chop, chop, chop immediately, whereas the left of centre parties have to form committees, study it, and then maybe change things. I mean why bother running if you don't have a plan of action to put into effect the first day you get elected. The left doesn't get that many chances to govern, but when they do they ofter squander their opportunities.

Why didn't they do this at the beginning of their term. This appears to be too little, too late.

Let us not forget that Tony Blair was the U.S.A.'s staunchest supporter when it came to both the Afghan and Iraq wars. It has recently come to light when the U.S.A. was ramping up for the Iraq war in late 2002 to early 2003, Gordon Brown was also a strong supporter of the Iraq war.

After Obama announced his 30,000 troop surge, Brown promised NATO a 5,000 (the second largest) troop surge to Afghanistan.

By-the-way have you seen the financial benefits Blair has obtained for being such a good ally.

Because New Labour are not a left party at all.  They are cynical, corrupt opportunists who are looking defeat in the eye and are only now desperately trying to appeal to the working class base they have fucked over for the past decade.

I wish we had at least as leftwing a government as British Labour. We don't even have a national housing strategy since the Liberals screwed Canadians over in the 90's but good. Here in Canada we have two doubley redundant conservative parties clinging to coalition power with somewhere less than half the country voting for both of them. Harper's not a leader, and Iggy's a fraud, too.

Actually they did do quite a bit- at the beginning of the term and later.

I haven't and wont look at the manifesto. But its a safe bet a lot of it is recycled from the general vision of 1997. There were good aspects to that, and a lot of the early programs were first steps in that longer term vision. Tony Blair's adventure with Gearge Bush, and his certainty that He was right, played a very big part in the distraction.

Its nice that Milband remembers, but no one is listening.

Fodder for the part of the Labour core that has not totally given up... logs they can put on the fire when they are back in the wilderness.

Looks like Labour will get re-elected to me.

Looking at the campaign synopses in the Globe yesterday make it appear that the Lib Dems are campaigning to the left of labour.
